Position Summary :
The Night Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the facility’s night shift operations. This includes order selection, replenishment, dock and yard management, loading, sanitation, and receiving (as needed). The role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality operational performance across all night shift activities. This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring on-time departures, maintaining a clean and safe working environment, and driving continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and safety.
Key Responsibilities :
Shift Operations Management
- Oversee all night operations, including selection, replenishment, loading, yard jockey coordination, sanitation, and receiving.
- Ensure on-time truck departures through effective dock and yard management.
- Conduct end-of-shift walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and equipment readiness.
- Review and address maintenance concerns and report any facility issues.
- Ensure PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) inspection forms are completed and equipment is parked and charging correctly.
Performance & Quality Monitoring
Monitor daily performance metrics : scanning %, mispicks, skipped scans, misloads, and overall quality.Compile and analyze performance data : daily tracking rolled into monthly trend graphs.Identify performance gaps and implement corrective action plans, coaching, or discipline as needed.Recognize top performers (e.g., best picker by PPH, accuracy, scan rate).Monitor actual vs. planned volume and staffing; adjust plans accordingly.Track trainee progression and provide ongoing feedback and support.Safety Oversight
Lead with a safety-first mindset : enforce PPE (vests, horns, etc.) and operational safety protocols.Deliver daily safety tips during pre-shift meetings.Investigate and report accidents, near misses, and damages—ensure accountability.Monitor safety compliance throughout the shift and reinforce best practices.Track and report safety metrics (goal : ZERO incidents).Planning & Communication
Prepare and lead daily pre-shift meetings :Safety topic of the dayReview of previous night’s performance (safety, quality, production)Volume forecast and staffing assignmentsQIP (Quality Improvement Plan) focus areasCreate and send daily operational schedules.Develop contingency plans for staffing and volume spikes.Collaborate with day shift leadership to align on handoffs, concerns, and ongoing priorities.Support AM dispatch with truck adjustments and load changes as needed.Quality Improvement & Training
Execute and monitor QIP initiatives focused on :Reducing mispicks, misloads, and shortsImproving scanning compliance and quality per truckIdentify areas needing improvement in production, scanning, quality, and on-time metrics.Develop and implement targeted action plans, review progress in weekly ops meetings.Oversee new hire orientation and shadowing programs.Coach and train team on best practices for efficiency and quality.Reporting & Documentation
Submit daily reports including :Safety results and incidentsOn-time performance and downtime trackingActual volume, staffing, and labor hoursTrainee updatesQIP target resultsEquipment inspections and maintenance needsLog and report concerns such as slotting issues, inventory challenges, and facility needs.Maintain detailed and timely communication with cross-functional teams.
