Overview
Southwest Gastroenterology Associates is an independently owned and operated digestive health clinic that has served Albuquerque and New Mexico for over 40 years. The practice provides comprehensive care for a full range of gastrointestinal disorders, including GERD, peptic ulcer disease, liver disease, IBS, hemorrhoids, and IBD. Its affiliated facility, Southwest Endoscopy, is New Mexicos only freestanding endoscopy center, offering safe and convenient outpatient procedures without the need for hospital admission. SWE is Medicare-certified and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Together, Southwest Gastroenterology and Southwest Endoscopy deliver advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services with a focus on patient comfort, safety, and high-quality care.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks
- Assist the physician with various procedures.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff.
- Perform all scope washing for the endoscopy center.
- Ensure supplies and equipment are available and in working order.
- Ensure maintenance of all equipment occurs at the prescribed interval with the contracted company.
- Set up the procedure room according to physician preference.
- Clean and perform routine maintenance of all endoscope equipment.
- Maintain scope-washing machines.
- Perform calibration.
- Receive supplies.
- Restock the endoscopy room with designated supplies.
- Process endoscopes in need of repair.
- Provide technical assistance to medical and nursing staff.
- Notify supervisor of any malfunction of equipment.
- Ensure a clean and tidy work area throughout the scope process.
- Responsible for the complete and thorough performance of assigned tasks.
- Follow established rules, regulations, and policies.
- Demonstrate economical use of equipment and supplies.
- Participate in CQI activities as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED.CMA or within 6 months of hireEndoscope Reprocessing Certification within 1 year of hireReceives on-the-job training and competency verification to perform primary functions.Formal nurses aide, medical assistant, nurse, or medical technician training preferred.Abilities
