Job purpose
The Safety Intern supports the project team in implementing and maintaining the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) program on active construction sites. Under the guidance of the Safety Coordinator and Superintendent, the intern assists in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies, client requirements, and OSHA standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the project Safety Coordinator and Superintendent in daily safety activities and inspections.
- Help ensure contractor compliance with company safety plans and policies.
- Participate in routine job site inspections and document observations in the HCSS system or other reporting tools.
- Support the collection, organization, and maintenance of safety documentation such as Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Toolbox Talks, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), inspection reports, and permits.
- Observe and assist in incident investigations and preparation of related reports.
- Participate in new employee safety orientations and other safety meetings.
- Support the review of safety submittals, training records, and equipment inspection reports.
- Promote company safety initiatives and culture across the project team.
- Assist with administrative tasks related to safety compliance tracking and recordkeeping.
- Attend project and corporate safety committee meetings as directed.
Qualifications
Current student actively pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or a related field.Basic knowledge of construction safety principles and OSHA regulations.Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using digital reporting tools.Able to work both independently and in a team environment.Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.Comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions.Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors and / or outdoors. The noise level is usually moderate to loud. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to travel and be exposed to inclement weather including cold and heat. Ability to climb a ladder and crawl in small spaces (if required) and / or (bridges).
