Company
We are a leading heavy civil contractor delivering high-profile transportation and infrastructure projects across the United States. Our expertise includes complex structural work, bridge retrofits, transit systems, and large-scale public infrastructure. We are advancing the Golden Gate Bridge Seismic Retrofit Project, a technically demanding and nationally significant effort to enhance the structural resilience of one of the world’s most iconic bridges.
We are seeking a highly skilled Estimator to support cost development, bid preparation, and project analysis for this landmark project and related bridge / seismic pursuits.
Position Overview
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates, performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing subcontractor proposals, and supporting pricing strategies for seismic retrofit scopes, structural work, marine operations, access / rigging systems, and other complex components of the Golden Gate Bridge Retrofit. This role is integral to our execution of a technically challenging heavy civil projects requiring deep attention to detail, accuracy, and constructability.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Cost Development
- Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for seismic retrofit components including structural steel, concrete strengthening, anchorage systems, tower modifications, and specialty access systems.
- Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and engineering documents.
- Develop labor, equipment, and material pricing based on historical data, production rates, industry standards, and project conditions.
- Build and maintain estimating templates, cost databases, and production assumptions specific to complex bridge work.
Bid Preparation & Analysis
Support preparation of bid packages, clarifications, and proposal documentsReview subcontractor and vendor proposals for accuracy, scope alignment, and risk.Develop comparison sheets, reconcile discrepancies, and ensure complete bid coverage for all scopes.Work with engineering, field operations, and access / rigging specialists to refine sequencing and pricing approaches.Technical Evaluation & Constructability
Interpret and analyze contract documents, drawings, addenda, geotechnical reports, and design criteria.Assess project risks, logistical constraints, marine working conditions, and constructability challenges.Collaborate with project engineers, superintendents, fabrication teams, and specialty subcontractors to develop realistic cost models and execution plans.Identify value engineering opportunities to optimize project cost, schedule, and constructability.Collaboration & Internal Coordination
Work closely with project leadership, corporate estimating team, and field experts to develop bid strategies.Participate in project review meetings, estimate handoffs, and internal pricing discussions.Assist with budgeting exercises, cost forecasts, and updates for ongoing retrofit work.Maintain strong communication with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to collect pricing and technical information.Systems, Reporting & Documentation
Utilize estimating software, spreadsheets, and project management tools to prepare detailed estimates and reports.Maintain organized documentation for auditability, transparency, and compliance with public-agency procurement standards.Support development of bid narratives, work breakdown structures, and pricing summaries.Qualifications Required
