About The Position

Worcester, Massachusetts – Critical Care Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant Locum Tenens

Hospital-Based ICU Coverage | Day & Night Shifts | Long-Term Contract | Cerner EMR

Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking experienced Critical Care Advanced Practice Providers (NPs or PAs) for an ongoing locum opportunity at a large regional hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts .

This role offers a chance to join a dynamic hospitalist and ICU team delivering high-acuity inpatient care in a collaborative environment. Candidates should have strong procedural skills, thrive under pressure, and be comfortable managing critically ill patients alongside residents and attending physicians.

Assignment Highlights

  • Location : Worcester, Massachusetts
  • Start Date : January 2026 (or upon credentialing)
  • Contract Type : Locum Tenens | Long-Term (6+ months)
  • Setting : Inpatient Critical Care / ICU
  • EMR : Cerner
  • Shift Options : 7 : 00 AM – 7 : 00 PM | 7 : 00 PM – 7 : 00 AM
  • Credentialing : 120 days (temporary privileges in 30 days available)

Program & Team Structure

  • 2 MDs / APPs during daytime coverage
  • Overnight : APC works independently (12 : 00 AM – 7 : 00 AM) with resident support and MD backup by phone
  • Intensivist in-house until midnight, then on-call
  • Average census : 5–6 patients per APC
  • New admissions : 2 / day, 1 / night
  • Open communication with hospitalist and surgical teams

    • Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive management for critically ill surgical ICU patients
  • Perform central line placements (primary APC responsibility)
  • Conduct patient assessments, diagnostic interpretations, and care planning
  • Respond to codes alongside residents and hospital medicine team
  • Collaborate closely with intensivists, hospitalists, and residents for seamless care coordination
  • Maintain detailed and timely documentation in Cerner EMR

    • Candidate Requirements

  • Licensure : Active and unrestricted Massachusetts NP or PA license
  • Certifications : ACLS and BLS required
  • Experience : Minimum 2 years of ICU or critical care experience required
  • Procedures : Must be comfortable performing central lines independently
  • Certification : NCCPA or national NP board certification
  • Other : Acute Care Certification preferred but not required
