Roadway Maintenance Superintendent
The Roadway Maintenance Superintendent oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of roadway, right-of-way, and infrastructure maintenance activities. This role provides leadership to maintenance crews, ensures safe and efficient operations, manages resources, and maintains compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
Key Responsibilities :
- Operational Leadership
- Plan, schedule, and supervise daily roadway maintenance operations, including pavement repair, snow / ice control, vegetation management, drainage systems, signage, and traffic control.
- Assign work to crews and contractors, monitor progress, and ensure quality standards.
- Project & Resource Management
- Estimate labor, materials, and equipment needs for projects.
- Oversee fleet and equipment maintenance; coordinate repairs or replacements.
- Manage inventory of materials such as salt, asphalt, aggregates, and supplies.
- Emergency Response
- Lead response operations during weather events, emergencies, and roadway hazards.
- Participate in on-call rotation and coordinate after-hours work as needed.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate with residents, contractors, utility partners, and government agencies.
- Respond to service requests, concerns, and inquiries professionally.
Minimum Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training preferred.Experience with roadway, construction, or public works maintenance experience, including supervisory responsibility.Strong knowledge of roadway systems, heavy equipment, traffic control, and OSHA safety regulations.Valid driver's license; and CDL-B.Ability to read blueprints, maps, and technical specifications.Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Working Conditions :
Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Frequent operation of heavy equipment, exposure to dust, noise, and roadway hazards. May require lifting, climbing, and extended periods of standing.
