We are seeking a Financial Analyst I USC Bookstore to join our rapidly growing team.

The Opportunity :

The Financial Analyst I for the USC Bookstore is pivotal in crafting insights to assess the current and future financial landscape. Your responsibilities include preparing and scrutinizing vital financial reports crucial for the smooth operation of university functions. You will be responsible for preparing and posting journal entries related to cost of goods inventory and royalties. This position will also be performing inventory and credit card sales reconciliation as well as ad hoc analysis.

The Accountabilities :

Organizes and summarizes into meaningful formats. May perform consolidated budget and financial reporting for multiple business units.

Evaluate and analyze financial and operating reports and data. Develops conclusions and recommendations and communicates orally or in writing to management.

Performs analysis to assist in business and financial planning. Produces and analyzes reports of current fiscal status and forecasts future performance based on sound knowledge of operations assigned. Analyses and researches variances to identify problems or trends and present solutions.

Review existing accounting reporting and data management systems and methods for adequacy. Contributes to the development and / or modification of financial systems and applications to enhance reporting and information capabilities.

Assists in the identification and resolution of business problems. Researches and interprets available data. Evaluate alternatives and determine appropriate methods of presentation.

Participates in projects or special studies of significant import to the university.

Researches credit card disputes and processes any needed refunds.

Prepares monthly journal entries related but not limited to Revenue Recognition Cost of Goods sold Profit Share and Royalties.

Researches future months activity to determine proper periodic accrual / deferrals.

Prepares twice monthly Cost of Goods report performs research to determine cause of significant variance from expected results.

Performs other related duties as assigned or university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

The Qualifiers :

Minimum Education : Bachelors degree. Combined experience / education as substitute for minimum education.

Minimum Experience : 1 year.

Minimum Field of Expertise : Business education or closely related field. Experience in financial analysis and reporting with knowledge of computer simulation and forecasting techniques. Proficient PC skills including Workday NetSuite and online credit card processors. Prior retail audit or inventory experience is a plus.

Preferred Education : Masters Degree.

Preferred Experience : 2 years.

Preferred Experience : Directly related experience in a university environment with knowledge of university systems and procedures.

The hourly rate range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00 . When determining an offer the University of Southern California considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role the candidates experience education training key skills internal peer alignment applicable laws contractual requirements grant funding and market conditions.
