Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Advancement is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive, diversified, and strategic plan around our missions charitable giving, fundraising, marketing and communications efforts. The Director will be stepping into a role that has not previously been formalized around all these efforts and will have the opportunity to bring their own vision.

This is a unique opportunity to shape and scale the department, build a high-performing team, and create a strategic vision that will drive long-term growth and impact. The person in this role will be responsible for assessing and providing a design for the structure of the department that supports success. The role will immediately oversee a full-time graphic designer who is also responsible for social media management.

The person in this position will serve as part of a larger team that includes the Director of External Affairs who is responsible for government relations, grant management, community partnerships, and business development.

In collaboration with the CEO, and board leadership, the Director of Advancement will significantly increase philanthropic revenue, high-impact partnerships, community awareness, and build on ISBH’s existing and emerging impactful relationships.

The ideal candidate will bring proven professional experience in charitable giving, fundraising, marketing and communication. Candidates should also bring comfort communicating about the work of ISBH and those we are committed to serving. As an integral member of ISBH’s leadership team, the Director of Advancement will consistently coordinate and collaborate with other senior leaders and departments to advance ISBH’s mission efficiently and collaboratively.

Position Responsibilities

Charitable / Planned Giving

  • Establish and oversee a short- and long-term charitable giving and fundraising plan to support achieving ISBH’s philanthropic strategic goals.
  • Responsible for building the infrastructure and establishing the platforms necessary to accept, process, and manage philanthropic gifts effectively.
  • Construct strategies and execute plans that will increase support of major giving, planned giving, corporate giving, fundraising events, and some private grants.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors at the highest level of giving capacity, including both individual and institutional sources, moving them through the stages of discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Steward donor relationships to ensure long-term donor loyalty.
  • Provide support to the CEO and board in fundraising activities including development of materials, relationship management, and ongoing donor cultivation efforts.

Marketing and Communications

  • Communicate ISBH’s value proposition, impact, and brand to increase awareness and diversify revenue streams.
  • Responsible for executing an internal and external communications and marketing plan that aligns with ISBH’s mission and goals ultimately supporting transparency and inclusion.
  • Oversee the agency's public relations, digital content, and branding strategy to ensure consistent messaging, effective media outreach, and strong stakeholder engagement.
  • Serve as an ambassador to potential donors interested in giving to ISBH’s, playing a visible role in advancing new and existing relationships.
  • Supporting the CEO in construction of internal and external communications that promote transparency and clear communication.
  • Team Management and Leadership

  • Motivate and manage a growing advancement team, directly supervising one team member and collaborating closely with the Director of External Affairs and Director of Community Partnerships.
  • Hire, train, retain, and develop a team of professionals by providing adaptive coaching and support to empower, learn, and develop as advancement professionals.
  • Set clear goals, offer constructive feedback, and support professional growth to empower team members with the skills and resources needed for success.
  • Promote cross-departmental collaboration, facilitating communication and integrated efforts that strengthen agency-wide impact.

  • Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Seven or more years of experience in development with progressive roles – preferred in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience with fundraising in diverse regions. Experience fundraising in southeast Ohio or rural areas preferred.
  • Demonstrate ability to implement and expand comprehensive fundraising programs.
  • Knowledge of and experience with fundraising, communications and marketing, and grants administration.
  • Personal values that align with ISBH’s mission and core values.
  • Understanding of the population and geography served by ISBH, preferred.
  • Propensity to articulate clear expectations to implement plans, showcase forward thinking, and take calculated risks.
  • Compensation and Benefits

    Compensation and Benefits are highly competitive. The salary range for this position is $102,000.00 to $128,506.89 based on education and experience.
