Our Civil Engineering client is a trusted engineering and consulting firm known for delivering innovative solutions and fostering strong client relationships across the Midwest. They are seeking a Structural Department Head to lead their structural engineering team, drive department performance, and support company-wide strategic goals through strong leadership, technical oversight, and client engagement. This person must sit in Brookings OR Sioux Falls.
Leadership & EOS Accountability
- Lead, manage, and hold staff accountable (LMA) using EOS tools and language.
- Align the department with the company's vision, core values, and strategic goals.
- Conduct weekly department meetings to discuss project status, budgets, workloads, staffing, and key updates.
- Establish and monitor individual and team utilization goals; identify and solve issues (IDS).
- Collaborate with leadership on departmental Rocks.
Team Management & Development
Oversee day-to-day workload, project assignments, and resource planning.Participate in hiring, onboarding, development, corrective actions, and terminations.Conduct performance reviews, approve training requests, and support professional development.Mentor and coach staff for continued growth.Technical & Project Oversight
Provide QA / QC and technical guidance on structural projects.Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.Promote cross-functional collaboration with other departments.Proposal Writing & Client Support
Lead proposal efforts, including writing, scope development, fee estimation, and coordination.Maintain and strengthen client relationships.Ensure responsiveness, satisfaction, and quality in client deliverables.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.Professional Engineer (PE) license required.Minimum 10 years of experience in structural engineering with increasing leadership responsibilities.Proven track record in managing people, leading projects, and writing successful proposals.Strong organizational, communication, and mentoring skills.Familiarity with EOS, or willingness to adopt and lead using EOS tools.
