Job Profile Summary
The purpose of the job is to serve in a management and leadership capacity reporting to the appropriate Academic Dean or Administrator for the responsibility of overall department operations in accordance with college policies, procedures and contractual agreement, and in support of the overall plan of the college. Employees in this job classification are responsible for the comprehensive coordination and administration of all matters relating to personnel, students, scheduling curriculum implementation, external agencies, instruction, and all financial considerations relating to the department, and accomplishes such in coordination with the colleges' mission and college wide goals and campus-based initiatives. Associate Deans provide leadership for all instructional programs which may include all or some of the courses within the associate degrees as well as vocational and technical certificates. Performs related work as directed.
Minimum Education :
Master of Science in Nursing degree required; Doctorate Degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
Minimum Experience / Training :
Requires three years teaching experience in Nursing at the postsecondary level, with a history of demonstrated leadership roles in educational settings.
History of demonstrated leadership roles in educational settings with increasing responsibility in past positions and demonstrate abilities in communication, leadership, management, teamwork, critical thinking, organizational skills, analytical skills, problem solving, conflict resolution and long range or strategic academic planning skills.
Excellent oral and written communication, financial management and budget design skills.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarly / creative research in higher education.
In-depth knowledge of Nursing.
Minimum Certification / Licenses :
Must have current and active Registered Nurse License from the State of Florida with no history of suspension or having any action taken against that license.
Essential Functions :
Daily - 20% : Provides professional leadership to department, faculty, and staff in fulfilling the mission of the Nursing program and college as such relates to the short and long-range academic initiatives of the department of Nursing by : 1) Communicating with nursing colleagues nationally, state-wide, within the community and the college regarding trends, contemporary practice, regulations, and the needs of the community as related to our current students and graduates. 2) Schedule and coordinate Nursing Advisory Committee Meetings and conferring with our community partners. 3) Scheduling and coordinating campus nursing faculty meetings, college-wide nursing meetings to disseminate all pertinent information as related to the college and the discipline as well as to offer any needed training workshops as related to student support and academic excellence. 4) Enforcing Florida Board of Nursing standards and National accreditation standards to maintain high level of approval and accreditation. 5) Attend community events designated to inform members of the community about BC and the nursing department. 6) Attend Dean's Meeting 7) Be active on college committees. 8) Work in cooperation with the administrative coordinator, administrative assistants, the lab coordinator, faculty and all clinical affiliating agencies to prepare and manage department operations such as : Class Schedule; Faculty Assignments; Face to Face requests for clinical space; centralized computerized requests for clinical space; request for clinical space in new local potential institutions / hospitals Delegate duties as may be necessary to the faculty, administrative coordinator, adjuncts, skill lab coordinator commensurate with the individual post.
Daily - 20% : Works in collaboration with the administrative Dean of Nursing and in tandem with the college wide Associate Deans of Nursing, Central Campus faculty and staff to ensure that an appropriate infrastructure is in place for the nursing program and department to support effective course / program delivery which includes : -Coordinating curriculum development for traditional courses in theory, clinical, and skills lab; delivery, evaluation, and revision, ensuring compliance with academic accreditation standards for the program outcome of preparing students to work effectively as caring professionals on healthcare teams and in human service agencies. - Collaborate with Dean of Nursing regarding strategies for developing and / or improving nursing programs to meet needs of community and to maintain integrity of program. -Oversee selection, coordination, and evaluation of clinical practicum locations in consultation with the Dean, clinical agency personnel and accrediting organizations of the nursing program. -Assist in preparation and communication of policies and procedures, ethical-professional behavior to all students, faculty and appropriate employees to ensure they are administered consistently. - Coordinate and conduct program orientation sessions - Provide communications to students via email and in the classroom setting as necessary to provide information to maintain program integrity. - Communicate and coordinate with the clinical affiliating agencies the scheduling of nursing student rotations to the various centrally located agencies approved by the nursing accrediting organization. -Develops, implement t and maintains procedures to maintain inventory ordering system for supplies required for the supportive function of the nursing program and courses. - Coordinates, maintains, audits and submits accurate records for the college and for the nursing accrediting agencies while staying current regarding all national, state and local licensure and accreditation requirements including : -inventory, payroll, faculty schedules, textbook orders, program manuals / policies, grades, course syllabi, catalog materials; requests for information by reports and surveys; all forms related to health history, mandatory continuing education; certificates, immunizations and titers as required by the clinical affiliates; Coordinates the maintenance of department records including records of the : program, students, faculty, supportive personnel
Daily - 10% : Engages in recruiting and program promotion activities of the college and nursing program : LPN to RN Transition Program and Generic Traditional Program. - Demonstrate a commitment to diversity through active engagement with the College's policies on equal opportunities - In tandem with college-wide Associate Deans of Nursing, collaborate with the Health Science Admission Team and Academic Advisors regarding the recruitment and admission effort for the nursing department. - Coordinate and provide Pre-Nursing Information Meetings for future nursing students to disseminate nursing program information. Collaborate with Health Science admissions the Pre-Admission Sessions for newly admitted students. - Provide Pre-Admission meetings for students admitted into the nursing program to disseminate nursing program information. - Participate in the college-wide academic advisors monthly meeting to actively promote collaboration among the academic advisors, Health Science Admission Team to communicate and ensure coherence and consistency in the implementation of admission requirements and policies.
Daily - 10% : Maintains the quality and delivery of academic and administrative processes within the nursing program to assure compliance with academic regulatory, and accreditation standards. - Coordinate and maintain in collaboration with the faculty and PTS, committees that work toward maintaining curriculum data for the self-study reports required by the accrediting organizations. - In collaboration with the associate deans of nursing, write the self-study reports as required by the accrediting agencies. - In collaboration with the support personnel monitor and guide development and maintenance of job description
Daily -10% : Provides an environment which fosters positive attitudes, recognition, responsibility, creativity, and opportunities for personal and professional growth among faculty, supportive personnel and students. - Assist and advise students regarding program of study and course selection. - Communicate, monitor, and work toward resolution of faculty, support staff, student issues and concerns. - Addresses student complaints or concerns with instruction or faculty. - Collaborates with and seek counsel from the academic dean, student affairs, security, human resources or any other college support service as needed. - Obtains and analyzes data and produce reports on student needs, interests and profiles; analyzes changing student needs and initiates program revisions to respond to these changing needs. - Provides faculty opportunities for professional development to enhance teaching and learning. - Coordinates with faculty, instructional assignments within bargaining agreement guidelines for delivery methods; evaluates, reviews and recommends improvements and enhancements for consistency and quality of the program and courses.
Daily - 10% : Manages the budget for the Nursing Department in collaboration with the Dean of Nursing in accordance with the Faculty strategy and college goals. - Designs, coordinates and oversees instructional, operational and project budgets. - Ensure compliance with established budgets and operational plans. - Review, monitor and analyze budget policy decisions to determine short term and long range financial and organizational implications for the nursing program and prepares related reports as requested by Dean reflecting recommendations and conclusions. - Supervise payroll development and disbursements of nursing department personnel.
Daily - 10% : Coordinates the interview process, recommendation selection, hiring, terminating, supervision and evaluation of faculty, adjunct faculty, nursing lab coordinator and supportive personnel guided by the Human Resource policies / procedures and bargaining agreement and nursing accrediting organizations. - The associate dean will be instrumental in recruiting faculty, students and staff to the college as needed in accordance to the college and HR policy-procedure.
Daily - 10% : Other duties as may be designated by the Dean, commensurate with the post of Associate Dean.
