Cardiovascular / Thoracic First Assist APP (NP / PA)

Wausau, WI

Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 6 : 30am–3 : 00pm + Call

First Assist | CVT Surgery

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cardiovascular / Thoracic Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join a collaborative surgical team in Wausau, WI. This position is strictly OR first assist, with no clinic or ICU responsibilities. The APP will support cardiothoracic surgeries, with a focus on vein harvesting and intraoperative assistance.

Schedule & Call

Monday–Friday : 6 : 30am–3 : 00pm

1 call day / week + 1 backup day / week

1 : 4 weekend call rotation

Weekend call : Friday at 3 : 00pm through Monday at 6 : 30am

Call response time : 20 minutes

Low call back volume – Typically 1–2 times per month

Role Responsibilities

First assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures

Perform endoscopic vein harvesting using Getinge Hemopro 2 system

Support 1–3 surgical cases per day (no rounding or admissions)

Work collaboratively with a team of 4 CVT surgeons, anesthesia, and support staff

Minimum of 3 surgical assistants scheduled daily

EMR : Epic

Closest airport : Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA)

Credentialing timeframe : 30 days

4 CVT Surgeons

1 RN

1 APP

5 Office Staff

2 daily anesthesia blocks

Qualifications

Certified NP or PA with active licensure in Wisconsin or eligibility via IMLC

CVT surgical first assist experience required

Endoscopic vein harvesting experience strongly preferred

Strong teamwork and communication skills

ACLS certification preferred

This is a highly specialized surgical assist role with an excellent work-life balance, minimal call backs, and no inpatient rounding. Work alongside skilled surgeons and a dedicated OR team in a structured and supportive environment in beautiful Wausau, WI.
