A $5 billion private equity firm based in New York is seeking a Tax Director to establish and lead its in-house tax function. This newly created role represents a unique opportunity to join an established yet growing investment platform as its first dedicated tax professional. The position offers direct visibility with firm leadership and the ability to shape tax strategy, process, and execution across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of tax planning, compliance, and reporting for the firm’s funds, management company, and GP entities
- Coordinate annual and quarterly tax compliance with external advisors, including review of partnership returns, K-1s, and investor tax reporting
- Advise investment and finance teams on tax implications related to transactions, fund structuring, and cross-border investments
- Develop and maintain internal tax processes and controls to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Partner with investor relations on investor-specific tax inquiries and reporting
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise on the impact of new tax legislation
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and service providers
- Provide tax support for ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives across the platform
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and / or Master’s in Taxation strongly preferred6–10 years of experience in public accounting and / or private equity or asset management tax rolesStrong technical knowledge of partnership taxation, fund structures, and carried interestDemonstrated ability to lead and manage complex projects with multiple stakeholdersExcellent communication and analytical skills, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approachComfortable operating autonomously as the firm’s first in-house tax professionalCompensation and Benefits
