General Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Prevention Program Manager, the Student Assistance Professional develops and delivers services to students facing behavioral health issues in collaboration with school assistance programs, parents, and community agencies.

Salary : $49,992.80 - $60,830.40 annually / $32.89-$40.02 hourly. Offers are made at the beginning of the range.

Assignment :

This position is full-time, working 8 hours per d ay, 190 days per year. This position will serve the students of Castle Rock School District. A work calendar will be built with the program upon hire and will follow a school year schedule

    Essential Functions / Other Functions

    Essential Functions :

  • Recruit, enroll, screen, and provide support to youth identified as needing student assistance services and participate as an integral member of the student assistance, core, or other multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Coordinate activities with the school-based team to identify students facing behavioral health issues and refer them to school and community-based services. Develop and communicate student referral process for school staff.
  • Provide individual / family support services within the student assistance framework.
  • Prepare and complete program record keeping forms, including intake, services, and evaluations and enter activities monthly into the LGAN data collection system.
  • Provide pre-assessment and referral information to students and / or parents who are affected by alcohol, or drug use.
  • Facilitate school-based support services by implementing the assigned program to fidelity.
  • Conduct early intervention / insight programs for students experimenting with or having disciplinary issues with substance use and provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Provide alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention / awareness programs (e.g. Washington Drug Free week, prevention education series, etc.) to staff, students and / or parents.
  • Provide school staff in-service training pertaining to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Also provide training in the areas of prevention, intervention, recovery and student assistance programming.
  • Facilitate alcohol, tobacco, drug prevention and intervention, and concerned others (children of substance users) support / education groups as needed.
  • Other Functions :

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Attend monthly training meetings at Educational Service District 112.
  • Minimum / Preferred Qualifications & Skills

    Minimum Qualifications :

    Must meet one of the following :

  • Bachelor's degree OR a High School diploma or GED and four years of experience working with students facing behavioral health issues; OR
  • Qualified Alcohol / Drug Counselor meets WA State DBHR (Dept. of Behavioral Health and Recovery) requirements; OR
  • WA State licensed Psychologist as defined under RCW 18.83; OR
  • An educational staff associate certification as a school counselor, school psychologist, school nurse or school social worker under Washington professional educator standards board rules adopted pursuant to RCW 28A.410.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in education, human development, sociology, or psychology.
  • Experience in school based student assistance programs.
  • Hold or eligible to hold a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) or Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) certification. Individual assignment may require candidate to pursue certification.
  • Working Conditions / Employment Requirements

    Working Conditions :

  • Extended or flexible hours as necessary.
  • Travel to school districts and institutions within the Prevention Program service region.
  • Employment Requirements :

  • Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
