Job description

Join the Pharmaceutical Calibrations and Instrumentation (PCI) team! We are seeking a Calibration Technician II who can perform calibrations, vendor assistance, and data / documentation onsite at our client pharmaceutical facilities in Waltham, MA, and other sites in the area if needed. If you prefer working at a fast pace, "on the go" instead of at a desk, have a passion for performing quality work, and possess a strong electronics or instrumentation background, this position may be just for you! Up to 50% travel is required based on project and client needs, as this is considered a "field service" position, although this role is projected to be at least 75% in the Boston metro area.

This position focuses on performing preventive maintenance, qualifications, relocations, and calibrations of various instruments such as electronics, temperature devices, pressure gauges, centrifuges, incubators, balances, and others found in pharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory environments.

The Calibration Technician reports directly to the Team Leader, Manager, or Director depending on the organizational structure. This is a full-time, hourly position.

Expectations :

Calibration Technicians complete calibrations, qualifications, and PMs with accurate and timely GxP documentation, following PCI and / or client-specific policies and procedures. They are expected to support the team proactively and provide excellent client support, building trust with internal and client personnel through consistently upholding PCI Values of Honesty, Integrity, Pride, Accountability, Teamwork, and Commitment. The Tech II is expected to have a broader knowledge of instrumentation and regulatory compliance, continuing training on new instrumentation areas and understanding pharmaceutical and FDA requirements. Increased client interaction will occur, and the Tech II will develop a deeper understanding of PCI's services and how clients can expand their use.

Responsibilities include :

  • Completing calibrations, maintenance, qualifications, commissioning, and troubleshooting / repairs safely, timely, and accurately, following policies and procedures.
  • Understanding client needs through effective communication and developing client relationships with excellent customer service.
  • Maintaining a professional work area and projecting a professional image.
  • Identifying potential new opportunities for PCI at client sites and relaying leads to management.
  • Performing calibrations, qualifications, and PMs with minimal supervision, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Performing flow, conductivity, pH, mass, and dimensional calibrations with guidance.
  • Completing timesheets accurately and assisting colleagues with time and expense coding.
  • Handling and maintaining PCI and client equipment properly.
  • Learning troubleshooting and repairs, with primary focus on scheduled calibrations and maintenance.
  • Reporting safety issues and educating peers on safety practices.

Knowledge and skills :

  • Understanding of traceability, standards substitution, and test accuracy and uncertainty ratios.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical instrumentation, including process control systems.
  • Calibration of instruments in manufacturing, utilities, and lab settings.
  • Ability to climb stairs and equipment, perform moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Electrical panel knowledge and safety procedures.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Reliable, eager to learn, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, seeking clarification when needed.
  • Expanded understanding of calibration concepts, standards, and industry regulations.
  • Required experience & education :

    A two-year degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, or related field, or equivalent military training plus two years of applicable experience, or a combination thereof. Pharmaceutical / Quality System experience is preferred.

    PCI serves pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, and clinical research industries nationwide, performing calibrations with highly trained personnel knowledgeable of FDA, EPA, and ISO / IEC standards.
