Overview
GovCIO is seeking a skilled Kafka Subject Matter Expert to join our team and support our customer, USPS, in their CIO Architecture, Strategy & Innovation (CASI) group. The CASI team plays a pivotal role in assisting the Vice President of Information Technology (IT) in designing, developing, and implementing a robust IT roadmap aligned with corporate business vision and strategies. This position allows you to work remotely within the United States.

Responsibilities
- Provide analytical support to seamlessly integrate new Kafka clusters and event stream requirements into established large-scale, production enterprise architectures.
- Conduct comprehensive Design and Architecture assessments, delivering written recommendations for incorporating Kafka event streams within specific application domains or enterprise-wide event brokering.
- Troubleshoot Kafka production event streams and software integration issues as top-tier internal support, including performance reviews and devising effective resolutions.
- Research and provide thorough written reviews of best practices in the Kafka ecosystem and innovative strategies for ensuring hybrid multi-cloud high availability.
- Engage in proof of concept activities and develop prototypes for Kafka technology stack components in sandbox environments to evaluate new capabilities.
- Establish and implement standards for the lifecycle of the Kafka ecosystem, test-driven protection schemes, and automated implementation strategies.
- Devise enterprise expansion roadmaps for Kafka ecosystem capabilities, integrations, and governance.
- Review strategy and compliance for enterprise Kafka ecosystem elements, covering areas such as architecture frameworks, databases, networks, web applications, backup and recovery, high availability, and analytics.
- Handle querying and management of data in both SQL and NoSQL databases.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 20+ years of experience (or equivalent experience).
Required Skills and Experience
Hands-on experience in designing and implementing Kafka event streaming capabilities within applications and infrastructure in hybrid multi-cloud environments.Proficient in producing IT technical artifacts focused on Kafka event streams, including design documents, architecture diagrams, assessments, white papers, and implementation plans.Deep understanding of design principles, Kafka implementations, and applicable use cases for migrating legacy applications to modern event-driven architectures.Demonstrable expertise in Apache Kafka, Confluent Platform, and Confluent Cloud.Extensive knowledge of Apache Strimzi and Confluent for Kubernetes.Proficient in cloud services compatible with Kafka APIs (e.g., Azure Event Hub, Amazon MSK).Expertise in Confluent Schema Registry and serialization using JSON and AVRO schemas.Solid understanding of Kafka replication options, including Mirror Maker and Confluent Cluster Linking.Knowledgeable in Confluent Identity Management and role-based access control integrated with enterprise identity providers.Familiar with Kafka Client APIs (Producer, Consumer, Streams) and Kafka Connect, along with various connectors.Experience in sizing and capacity planning for Kafka clusters and understanding partitioning strategies.Additional Requirements :
Utilize design patterns to build scalable and maintainable solutions.Document code, models, and technical solutions effectively.Proficient in Generative AI and prompt engineering.Show continuous learning and adaptability in a large IT organization.Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and executive audiences.Troubleshoot software and implementations in large-scale enterprise ecosystems.Understand CI / CD concepts, containerization, and deployment strategies for Kafka components.Manage and query data in SQL and NoSQL databases.Create technical diagrams using tools like Microsoft Visio or Draw.io.Draft technical design and architecture documents in Microsoft Word.Prepare business and technical presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.Develop data representations and reports in Excel and Power BI.Clearance Required : Candidates must possess US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance.
