Job descriptionThe Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammography examinations following ACR requirements. Assists with breast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, breast localization and other radiologic guided procedures within the Breast Center. Performs diagnostic and screening mammographic examinations on adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients. Performs mammographic imaging for breast needle localization and stereotactic procedures including setup and cleanup. Assists in procedures using ultrasound guidance. Provides immobilization devices, selects proper technical factors based on patient needs, and operates equipment for specific procedures. Identifies patient films correctly with name, x-ray number, side of patient, and initials all films. Develops exposed x-ray film using processing methods. Completes patient requisitions with technologist’s initials, date number, and size of films. Assists with quality control procedures and documentation as delegated by Chief Mammography Technologist. Assists in breast self-exam instruction and other patient education including pre and post procedure instructions. Prepares cases to be imaged including chart and films. Assists with compiling statistics for patient follow-ups, breast localizations, biopsies, and ultrasound examinations. Documents procedures regarding quality control and assurance for mammography in compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State and FDA. Documents pertinent patient information in the Breast Center chart. Modifies and delivers care specific to patient needs including age, culture, language, and disabilities. Communicates with patients, parents, and caregivers at appropriate developmental and educational levels. Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Minimum 2 years prior experience as a Licensed Mammography Technologist. High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology. Must have ARRT certification. Must obtain mammography certification within the first three months of employment. Must have active Diagnostic Radiography License. Works within the Breast Center performing mammography and related breast imaging procedures.
