Job description

Product Manager

As a Product Manager joining our Engineering Experience and Enablement team, you'll have the opportunity to drive solutions to improve the experience and product of Principal's technology teams. You will be instrumental by bringing your expertise in strategy, product, and agility. We are building tools, practices, and transparency to improve the lives of our technology teams and to promote engineering excellence across the enterprise. We are looking for a product professional who is excited to contribute to an environment that encourages collaboration, knowledge sharing, best practice, and strategic thinking.

Here are a few examples of the kinds of things you'll do :

  • Strategy : Help define and execute our product strategy. Challenge status quo, encourage innovation, be forward-thinking and approachable. Encourage and bring diverse views together to solve problems in an innovative way. Identify opportunities to improve the product management practice within your sphere of responsibility and take action to continuously improve. Be comfortable not having all the answers. Leadership will support you making small bets and embrace experimentation. Be curious and open to learning.
  • Stakeholder Management : Drive outcomes while collaborating with business and technology teams. Influence, lead, and collaborate well with all partners. Build strong partnerships across enterprise teams. Garner support, trust, and engagement for teams to proactively overcome barriers to stay product-centric.
  • Discovery : Articulate hypotheses and lead the product team (design, engineering, and various business roles) in ideating, running, and assessing experiments. Integrate business, customer, user, and partner insights to inform a clear understanding of opportunities / problems to solve and risks to manage.
  • Delivery : Drive the selection of features through prioritization of the product backlog, monitor value delivery on the way to completion, and participate in release management and solution validation. Empower your team to own solutions but help where needed to break down work for valuable and measurable releases. Aid user story creation and refinement, definition, acceptance criteria, prioritization, and acceptance of work as done.
  • Assessment : Bring data and insights to the table for product teams and stakeholders to understand and consume. Monitor and communicate product health, impact of product releases, and progress against product goals.

Who You Are We are looking for someone with :

  • 4+ years of business, technology, or product management experience; or equivalent demonstrated through the following : work experience, military experience, or education.
  • Demonstrated experience managing 1 or multiple products.
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic thinking, collaboration, and decision making in a product environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple workloads and / or competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience with stakeholders and relationship management in a product environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, influencing, and negotiating in a product environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging diverse perspectives and use of customer, user, or partner data and insights to inform decisions and actions.
  • 2+ years working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Additional Preferred Skills : Comfortable getting up to speed on technical topics (with time and support to upskill) Familiarity with GitHub, Cloud Solutions, and the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Salary Range Information Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and / or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly) $100800 - $182400 / year

    Time Off Program Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

    Work Environments This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC). You'll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
