S0-05 Material Handler
Under general supervision, the S0-05 Material Handler will deliver, receive, inspect, and store all food products, equipment and supplies for a dining unit, in a safe and timely manner. Additionally, this role will assist with inventory management to help manage food costs and may perform other duties including dishwashing, cleaning, stocking and assisting on the serving line in their assigned unit(s).
Likely daily tasks include :
- Plan, coordinate and implement safe product deliveries as well as receive food, equipment and supplies- verifying all goods against order sheets and invoices ensuring all products are damage free and unspoiled.
- Assist management with all inventory activity, regularly checking inventory levels, advising on stock levels and ordering needs as well as processing routine ordering of food and supplies.
- Maintaining cleanliness, stock levels, and organization of their assigned areas ensuring proper rotation of stock
- Ensuring that sanitary, HACCP, and NY State Health codes and procedures are maintained in assigned areas including, but not limited to, temperatures, safe handling procedures, proper sanitary restraints and uniforms.
- Assist, as needed, in other areas of the kitchen and interact directly with customers and vendors, fielding feedback to management to ensure customer satisfaction
A successful S0-05 Material Handler will be customer-service driven, flexible, and team-oriented. This role should have strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize multiple projects / tasks in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, this role will embrace Cornell Dining's Code of Professionalism to ensure we achieve Cornell Dining's overarching mission.
Posting is for multiple positions across Dining with various schedules. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Location and schedule assignments will be based on business needs. Position may require regular evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Daily tasks, locations and schedules may be subject to change including the potential for seasonal lay-offs.
This position is part of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union. The current rate of pay is listed in the collective bargaining agreement here : https : / / hr.cornell.edu / sites / default / files / 2023-04 / uaw.pdf and starts at $24.38 / hour.
Required Qualifications :
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 1 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combinations of education and experience.Basic proficiency in English involving reading, writing, math and verbal articulation.Basic proficiency in using online / inventory management system.Must possess a valid New York State driver's license with no major driving violations and be able to obtain & maintain Cornell's driving certification.Must be comfortable driving a large box truck and van and safely operate delivery truck under inclement weather conditions.Must be able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. (minimal).Must be able to reach over your head, stand for long periods of time, occasional squatting, frequent bending, and conduct repetitive motion.Must be able to withstand frequent / continuous exposure to temperature changes and a variety of environmental and sensory impacts, including but not limited to cold, heat, steam, smoke, slippery floors, and food waste areas.Must be comfortable and able to use kitchen equipment, as well as be able to learn the utilization of advanced cooking equipment as needed.Preferred Qualifications :
Additional education and experience preferred including higher education food service or related restaurant experience.Knowledge of storeroom and inventory techniques is highly preferredExperience in Food Management System (FSS) highly preferred.No relocation assistance is provided for this position.
