GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Occupational therapy (OT) is one of the services under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and is provided to support the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for students ages 0-3, who have been found eligible for Early Intervention Services. When the student's IFSP identifies OT as a needed resource, the occupational therapist will be integrated as a member of a multidisciplinary early intervention team. The Early Intervention based OT, among other responsibilities, performs evaluations, offers coaching to parents and team members, provides consultative services to parents and early intervention staff, provides direct therapy, provides services and attends meetings related to children with motor, feeding, and / or sensory disabilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Ability to deliver effective early intervention therapy services. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge regarding pediatric disabling conditions and major theories and intervention strategies with educational implications for students with disabilities. Informal and formal evaluation and interpretation skills. Effective behavior management skills and instructional techniques. Ability to develop effective treatment plans and service. Ability to document progress and relate it to the students' goals and objectives. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all parents and students. Ability to consult and collaborate with team members.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's from an accredited school of occupational therapy. Master's preferred. Must have a record of successful full-time therapy experience or have demonstrated a successful internship. Must hold a current (or be eligible for) Virginia License in Occupational Therapy. Valid VA Driver's License.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS :
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Job responsibilities may include supporting lifting and transfer programs of students; some lifting is naturally required. Frequent travel between school buildings and throughout Hanover County, during adverse weather conditions is required. Regular transportation of adaptive equipment and positioning of students weighing up to 50 pounds is necessary.
