Pennsylvania Hospital is seeking a Pathologist Assistant to join the team. This is a full time, day shift opportunity.
Summary :
- Employee maintains accession records necessary to confirm specimen / result identity; assists pathologists and residents in processing, dissection, and description of gross anatomic findings of submitted specimens in accordance with established procedures; performs computer data entry and verification procedures; reports to Supervisor and performs duties as assigned.

Maintains accession records according to established proceduresCorrectly accessions, labels, fixes and directs specimens received in the gross roomDetermines when and what action is required to ensure accuracy in the processing of surgical pathology specimensPerforms grossing with description and dissection that is clear, concise and complete.Enhances efficiency, production, and output with appropriate task prioritizationEnsures specimen receipt with identification verification proceduresEvaluates specimen condition while maintaining specimen integrityCoordinates accession activities with the clerical staff along with other professional staffPerforms quality audits as required.Ensures that proper supplies are available and maintains clean, sterile working areaKeeps supplies at acceptable levelsMaintains instruments at top performancePerforms PM according to manufacturer's recommendation and department policy.Performs duties in an independent mannerRecognizes and performs duties which need to be performedRegularly helps othersWillingly accepts and performs new or added tasks as assigned by the supervisorConsistently reports to supervisor any suggestions or positive changes / recommendations to departmental policies / proceduresStrives to always put time to good use.Works well with supervisors and those in authorityWorks at establishing a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the laboratoryMaintains a positive rapport with medical staff and hospital personnelCommunicates in a highly professional manner at all times.Complies with Hospital and Laboratory Safety RequirementsReports hazards to the Safety Office or Supervisor when foundCompletes mandatory in-services on or before the due dateResponsible for maintaining adequate staffing on all three shifts, weekends, and holidays.Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and proceduresOther duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organizationCredentials :
PA Certification by a minimum standards exam, such as the Board of Certification (ASCP) or equivalent, or eligible to take such an exam (Preferred)Education or Equivalent Experience :
Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)Education Specialization : Biological, Chemical Sciences or health science related field.Master of Arts or Science - Education Specialization : Pathology Assistant (Preferred)1+ years Experience as a Pathology Assistant in an appropriate setting is desirableExtensive knowledge of gross and surgical anatomy, dissection technique, histologic processing methods and nomenclature (preferred)Prior experience with Laboratory Information Systems (preferred)We believe that the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees.
