Five Keys Housing Services aims to provide a warm, thriving community of support and services tailored to the unique needs of unhoused individuals at our various sites. Our goals are to provide outstanding customer service to our guests; excellent training and support to our staff; and ensure a safe, welcoming and clean environment for each of our guests to call home as long as they are with us. Our housing sites are unique in their approach to our clients, emphasizing low barriers to entry and a flexible approach to rules and requirements. Our goal is to support people who are often unsuccessful in traditional shelter or housing settings.

JOB SUMMARY

The Shift Supervisor position reports to the Site Director or the Assistant Site Director and is accountable for overseeing a team of Ambassadors responsible for operational and participant services at Housing Sites. In collaboration with the site's leadership, the Shift Supervisor makes key decisions related to site operations.

We are looking for someone who insists on maintaining a positive attitude and enjoys supporting a diverse group of people. The right person will contribute to our appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.

Housing Sites are 24-hour operations and we reserve the right to change your schedule and / or work location when needed.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive positive change by guiding your team in adopting innovative solutions, promoting community engagement, and supporting our mission to end homelessness
  • Coach team in de-escalating conflicts, fostering creative solutions, and building a strong sense of community
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including staffing, supervision, training, security, and community partnerships to ensure smooth functioning of the Housing Site
  • Hire, schedule, and supervise a team of Ambassadors, providing ongoing training, mediation, and support
  • Act as a key decision-maker in difficult situations related to guest services and operational matters, consulting with Directors when necessary
  • Ensure a welcoming, safe, and healthful environment for all staff and participants
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques to address incidents involving violence or threats, and mediate conflicts between guests and staff
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships and work closely with city staff, partnering agencies, and nonprofit providers to ensure safety, security, and well-being for all staff and guests
  • Create and maintain accurate records, including documenting shift activities, writing incident reports, reviewing and authorizing Denial of Service notices
  • Ensure the fair enforcement of Housing Site rules
  • Accurately maintain operations logs, statistical records, and computerized documentation in compliance with operational standards
  • At all times, interact with participants, staff, and external agencies with honesty, respect, and professionalism
  • Take immediate and appropriate action in response to all emergencies on-site, including overdoses, medical incidents, and other critical situations
  • Ensure polite, professional, and customer-focused behavior when interacting with guests and staff at all times
  • Consistently demonstrate ethical behavior and make honest decisions, even when unsupervised
  • Make sound decisions by applying critical thinking to assess issues, gather relevant information, and identify root causes
  • Take proactive steps to resolve problems with effective, solution-focused approaches
  • As they arise, proactively report concerns to leadership, contribute to troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts
  • Utilize strong understanding of social services and mental health resources to support low-income adults
  • Manage day-to-day administrative tasks at the Housing Site
  • Ensure all interactions with coworkers and guests are respectful and positive
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams using a participant-centered approach
  • Highly proficient in operating under and guiding others in the harm reduction model
  • Highly proficient de-escalation skills with the ability to support guests and staff through difficult conversations
  • Ability to maintain strong professional boundaries with guests, as outlined in employment handbook regarding appropriate behavior
  • Ability to work well with community partners and governmental agencies
  • Ability to maintain an optimistic outlook, consistently uplifting coworkers and finding the positive aspects in people, situations, and events, even when faced with challenges
  • Ability to work effectively with supervisors and directors to complete projects and contribute to the success of this high-intensity emergency response initiative
  • Working knowledge and experience of shelter services and a full understanding of programmatic and participant needs
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Zoom, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and databases
  • Strong knowledge of social services and mental health resources for low-income adults
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality and take all precautions when handling sensitive information
  • EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED required, Associates Degree preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years of previous supervisory experience preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working with at-risk populations and / or adults with multiple disabilities
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must wear provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements, when needed
  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms
  • Travel to multiple sites required
  • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and sitting
  • Long periods of walking, sitting at a desk and / or computer station
  • Lifting items that weigh up to 25 lbs.; reaching, bending, carrying and stooping within the daily routine of tasks and activities
  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    This position is contingent upon :

  • Submitting proof of clear TB results. Results dated within 60 days prior to hire date are acceptable
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Moderate to high noise level
  • Work environment varies from site to site
  • Some personal safety risk working in high-crisis environments
