Growing manufacturing company has an immediate need for a CNC Programmer / Set-Up Machinist is responsible for developing precise, efficient CNC programs and performing full machining set-ups to support aerospace and defense manufacturing operations. This role ensures machining accuracy, repeatability, and productivity across mills and lathes while maintaining full compliance with AS9100D requirements. The individual in this position will collaborate closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to optimize workflows, reduce downtime, and ensure high standards of performance. Strong technical judgment, advanced machining knowledge, and the ability to execute complex strategies with minimal supervision are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Programming
- Create CNC programs using Mastercam and AutoCAD for milling and turning, including multi-axis work.
- Optimize toolpaths for accuracy, cycle time reduction, and repeatability.
- Interpret aerospace drawings, GD&T, customer specifications, and model-based definitions.
- Develop and document workholding and fixturing solutions.
- Maintain accurate program revision control in alignment with AS9100D standards.
Set-Up
Perform complete set-ups on CNC mills and lathes, including tooling selection, fixture installation, and offset setting.Verify programs through first-article inspections and in-process checks.Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and program issues and implement corrective actions.Reduce set-up time and improve machine utilization across shifts.Production & Quality Support
Work closely with the Production Supervisor, Quality Manager, and machine operators to ensure smooth job execution.Train operators on machine operation, tooling handling, and machining best practices.Support throughput improvement on key customer programs such as Meggitt, Disney / Miller Castings, and Turbojet.Participate in AS9100 corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.Promote a clean, organized, and safety-driven machining environment.Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 3 years of CNC programming and set-up experience in aerospace or precision machining.Proficiency in Mastercam and AutoCAD is required.Strong competency in both mill and lathe set-ups; experience with 4-axis and 5-axis preferred.Strong understanding of GD&T and complex aerospace blueprint interpretation.Ability to troubleshoot machining issues quickly and accurately.Experience with first-article inspections; familiarity with AS9102 is a plus.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-mix production environment.What Success Looks Like
