Customs Specialist (Entry Writer)
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Customs Specialist (Entry Writer) to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring the accurate and efficient clearance of goods across international borders while maintaining full compliance with all applicable customs regulations. The ideal candidate will manage import / export documentation, resolve compliance issues, and stay up to date with evolving trade laws and customs practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and verify customs documentation, including import and export entries.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (e.g., classification, valuation, and origin requirements).
- Coordinate with internal departments, customs brokers, clients, and government authorities to resolve clearance issues.
- Maintain current knowledge of global customs regulations and trade practices.
- Monitor regulatory changes and trade agreements that impact customs operations.
- Conduct internal audits to assess and ensure compliance with customs policies.
- Provide subject-matter expertise and support to team members on customs-related matters.
- Address customs inquiries, resolve disputes, and handle investigations as needed.
- Track customs clearance status and address any delays or discrepancies.
- Work with authorities and participate in programs such as C-TPAT or AEO .
- Contribute to the development and implementation of customs compliance policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
2–3 years of experience in customs operations, entry writing, or customs brokerage.Solid understanding of import / export regulations and customs clearance procedures.Experience with a variety of commodities and industry sectors is a plus.Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of customs compliance, documentation, and regulatory frameworks.Proficient in customs documentation and entry processes.High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and declarations.Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage deadlines and thrive in fast-paced environments.Familiar with customs classification (HTS), valuation methods, and country-of-origin rules.Understanding of international trade agreements and their application.Skilled in using customs management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field.Certification in customs compliance or related discipline (e.g., CCS, CES).Familiarity with automated customs systems and software platforms.Experience in conducting compliance reviews or participating in customs audits.Additional Requirements
