Job Description
A rapidly growing solar energy firm backed by a portfolio of clean energy and sustainability-focused companies is seeking a hands-on Construction Manager to lead and optimize its solar installation operations. The organization has experienced significant expansion and now requires a seasoned professional to implement structured processes, enhance field performance, and ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to high standards of quality as they transition into larger commercial and utility-scale work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead solar construction projects from planning through completion.
- Work closely with foremen and field teams to organize schedules, assign tasks, and maintain progress.
- Establish and implement quality control and root cause analysis processes.
- Create structure and stability as project scale increases.
- Support a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and accountability.
- Help build and train field teams as operations expand.
- Initially be hands-on in the field, transitioning to more office-based leadership as the team grows.
- Projects are primarily in the Chicago area , averaging 1 MW (up to 5 MW) , with about 70% field presence and 30% office time.
Ideal Background
Experience managing commercial or utility-scale solar projects. Not residential.Strong field leadership — able to “get hands dirty” while setting standards and structure.Knowledge of QA / QC, safety, and root cause analysis.Self-starter who thrives in a fast-growing, less-structured environment.Skilled at mentoring teams and implementing scalable project management systems.
