Title : Copy Editor & Writer (Part-Time – 28 Hours / Week)

Reports to : Communications Director

Location : Crossroads Fellowship

Schedule : Office Hours, 8 : 30am-5pm; occasional weekend or evening availability may be required

Position Overview :

Crossroads Fellowship is seeking a skilled and spiritually grounded Copy Editor & Writer to support our mission of transforming the Triangle and the World and helping believers become fully devoted followers of Christ. This part-time position (28 hours / week) plays a vital role in ensuring that all written communications are clear, consistent, compelling, and aligned with our church’s voice and values.

This individual will collaborate with ministry teams to write and edit a wide variety of content across digital and print platforms—from email campaigns and blogs to devotionals and sermon notes—enhancing how our church communicates the gospel and connects with the congregation.

Key Responsibilities :

Email Communications :

  • Help write and / or edit weekly churchwide and ministry-specific emails.
  • Ensure all emails are engaging, grammatically sound, and aligned with our church voice.
  • Collaborate with ministries to gather relevant content and communicate strategically through email.

Blog Writing and Editing :

  • Write original blog posts on various topics (ie. sermon recaps, felt-needs, Scripture, etc.).
  • Edit guest or staff-written blog content for clarity, tone, and grammar.
  • Maintain a consistent blog posting schedule in collaboration with the Communications team and various ministry teams.
  • Proofread and edit teaching curriculum for grammar, consistency, and clarity.
  • Collaborate with ministry leaders to ensure content aligns with church doctrine, theology, and teaching goals.
  • Devotional Writing and Creation :

  • Occasionally write and develop devotional content for use in church-wide series, seasonal campaigns, or digital distribution.
  • Assist in formatting, titling, and editing devotionals submitted by other contributors.
  • Website Copy Editing and Updates :

  • Update and edit website pages to ensure accurate, current, and engaging content.
  • Work with Communications Director and ministry leaders to make content changes and additions as needed.
  • Monitor website content for outdated or broken links, inconsistencies, or grammatical errors.
  • YouTube & Video Copy :

  • Write compelling YouTube video descriptions to support weekly sermons and special video content.
  • Ensure SEO best practices and accurate content tagging alongside of Video Director.
  • Sermon Note Editing and Uploading :

  • Edit and format sermon notes provided by pastors for publication in the church app or website.
  • Coordinate weekly uploads to ensure timely access for the congregation.
  • This role with also play a supporting part in other projects managed by the Communications Department.
  • Qualifications :

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.
  • 2+ years of experience in writing, editing, journalism, or a similar communications role; ministry or nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Christian theology and language, with the ability to write in an accessible, warm, and theologically sound tone.
  • Experience using email platforms (e.g., iContact, MailChimp, etc.), content management systems and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
  • Working knowledge of SEO, web publishing, and email best practices is a plus.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with ministry staff and volunteers.
