Must-Have : Stepdown experience

Description :

The unit consists of 20 beds.

The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1 : 3 in Stepdown and 1 : 5-6 on the floor.

Common diagnoses include respiratory issues, weakness, urinary tract infections, acute kidney injury, and chest pain.

RNs are required to titrate drips, including but not limited to Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, and Amiodarone.

There is a charge nurse and house supervisor present.

There are nurse aides available on this unit with a ratio of 2 per shift.

Respiratory equipment such as CPAP and BiPAP, as well as high-flow oxygen, is utilized.

Telemetry is available on the unit, with monitored strips, and RNs are responsible for reading the strips.

The schedule includes weekend requirements of 3 weekend shifts per 4 weeks and holiday rotation either on evening or day shifts.

There is no call or standby requirement, and there are no floating requirements.

Unit-specific orientation is provided.

The charting system used is EPIC.
