Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele night shift role requiring NC or compact licensure and at least 2 years of Med / Surg Tele experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital Med / Surg Telemetry unit
  • Shifts are 12-hour nights from 18 : 45 to 07 : 15, three shifts per week
  • Patient ratios target 1 : 6, with a maximum of 1 : 7 during high census periods
  • Patient population consists of general med / surg cases (cardiac telemetry not included)
  • Float required to all medical / surgical floors and possibly to affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Every other weekend is required
  • Self-scheduling per unit needs
  • Unit uses Epic and Pyxis systems, as well as SBAR communication
  • RTO (Requested Time Off) up to 7 days is allowed if not during holidays; no RTO during the first week of assignment or after booking
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • All staff, including travelers, may be assigned to Storm or Hurricane Teams and be required to report during emergencies or disasters
  • Unit orientation consists of 24 hours
  • Navy and / or white scrubs are required
  • Must complete pre-employment modules before start
  • Not eligible for a travel position if currently working travel Per Diem at this health system
  • Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units
  • Fatigue policy prohibits working more than 5 days in a row or more than 60 hours in a week

    • Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required at start (pending OK at submission)
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Med / Surg Tele RN experience required
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this assignment
  • IV start and telemetry skills required
  • BCLS certification required
  • Completion of EKG testing before start date is required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • References required at start, with two recent manager or supervisor references highly preferred
  • Candidates with a permanent address under 50 miles are considered locals
  • Previous permanent or PRN staff at the health system must have a 12 month gap before assignment eligibility
