Job description

Summary :

  • The Mechanical Designer / Drafter will design, develop, and test all aspects of Power Package units to meet our customers’ requirements.
  • Power Package units are predominantly steel structures that enclose generators and electrical power equipment, protect that equipment from the environment, control emissions from that equipment, cool that equipment, and comply with building codes.
  • The Mechanical Designer / Drafter will create models, drawings, and instructions that document how the Power Package units and related systems perform and are produced, integrated, shipped, operated, and maintained. This position will be located at the JTS Caldwell or Nampa facility. Travel between JTS facilities or other travel may be required.

This position could be assigned to first or second shift. Accountabilities:

  • Create and interpret product designs and models that meet customer requirements Collaborate with other designers, engineers and project managers to ensure designs meet all technical requirements, can be made efficiently, and are cost-effective Create and interpret drawing packages for manufacturing Create layouts and drawing views to depict functional and physical relationships of parts and systems in and around Power Package units Prepare bills of materials to detail parts and materials needed to cost and build each unit Create specifications for materials, parts, and systems Research technologies and products to improve the performance of JTS products Ensure designs meet all relevant quality and safety standards, codes, and regulations and are compliant with industry-specific requirements Analyze potential problems that could arise during the manufacturing process and recommend any solutions to solve these issues Use customer feedback and data to find any areas of improvement or identify areas of repair for existing machines Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues Work with in-house engineers and third-party engineering firms to conduct analyses and certify designs Work with other departments to ensure products meet safety and quality standards. Required Knowledge/Experience:

  • High School Diploma, equivalent, or any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties (Compensation and level of position depend upon qualifications and experience) Strong understanding of modeling preferred Solid Works, drawing, & drafting principles and best practices.
  • Sheet metal k-factors and bend allowances Tooling and jig development for weldments CNC, Press brake and Laser programing knowledge preferred Experience in Solidworks, PDM, AutoCAD, Revit, ProNest, SigmaNEST, Microsoft Office, and ability to adapt to other tools. Proficiency in a parametric 3D CAD system such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Creo, with experience creating detailed models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings for complex mechanical or structural products.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and structural design principles, including the ability to interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements relevant to industrial equipment and steel structures.

  • Demonstrated experience preparing complete drawing packages and bills of materials suitable for manufacturing, including attention to accuracy, revision control, and documentation quality.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and project management to ensure designs meet technical, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues and recommend practical, technically sound solutions.

Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record. Ability to pass a background check and drug screen. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing welded steel enclosures, skids, or structural systems for power generation, industrial equipment, or similar applications.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards such as ASME, AISC, AWS, NFPA, UL, IBC, and OSHA, including experience supporting designs through third-party review or certification.
  • Demonstrated competency in design for manufacturing and assembly, including direct collaboration with fabrication and assembly teams to improve cost, quality, and build efficiency.
  • Experience supporting or performing basic engineering analyses such as load calculations, thermal considerations, airflow or ventilation layouts, and tolerance analysis.
  • Track record of owning designs through the full product lifecycle, including concept development, production support, field issue resolution, and incorporation of customer feedback into continuous improvement. Powered by JazzHR
