Overview
The Director of Project Controls is the functional leader for the Project Controls Department, acting as a part of the Company's strategic leadership team as key contributor to the safety, people, client and profit key results for the Company. Director is principally responsible for all project controls in the renewables market sector, including earned value management, schedule management, cost & change management, equipment and labor management, project forecasting, and the management and talent development for the project controls team behind those responsibilities. The Director is also responsible for implementing and continuously improving all project controls processes, systems, and tools within the Company and shall act as a key resource to other department team members and Company leadership.
Senior staff within the Project Controls Department shall report directly to the Director, and the Director shall be responsible for managing, coordinating, and evaluating such staff's work and performance.
Location and Travel :
This position is an office based position in one of our the following locations : Fargo, ND; Phx, AZ; Indianapolis, IN; Clinton, IN. This position does require 25% travel throughout the United States.

Responsibilities
Project Controls Team Leadership :
- Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles
- Establish and directly manage the back-office project controls team assigned to the operating groups, including earned value management, budget / cost estimating controls, equipment and labor planning, job set-up, cost and phase code control, forecasting, productivity analysis, scheduling, change management and claims analysis functions
- Supervise the scheduling efforts for projects to include the preparation and analysis of schedule baseline, progress schedules, project labor forecasts, schedule analysis, and project progress reporting
- Give clear direction and targets to ensure all project controls team members will have the ability to achieve their goals and targets so that the overall goals of the Company are met
- Drive commitment in the Company to accurate and timely reporting, ensuring data-driven decisions
- Ensure that project teams have accurate data and reports necessary to know and understand project costs, productivity, schedule performance, trends, and forecasts in real time
- Oversee and monitor project performance, progress and forecasts, validating and reporting on cost and schedule performance against the baseline estimate and schedule
- Assess the impact(s) of project changes and assist project teams in developing claims, change orders, and recovery plans
- Identify trends and deviations and communicate root causes of variances and recommended corrective courses of action to project management based on relevant analyses
- Coordinate the development, validation, and baselining of project estimates with the estimating and operations teams
- Assist with the performance of value-engineering analysis
- Assist with review and development, issuance, and evaluation of subcontract change orders as required
- Interface with project stakeholders as a trusted advisor to provide guidance and recommendations for controls on projects
- Foster team growth through targeted individual project assignments and establishing of complimentary mentor / mentee relationships
- Proactively build relationships between the project controls team, project teams, operational groups, and generally within the Company at all levels
- Inspire trust and ethical behavior by creating an atmosphere of integrity with fair and respectful behavior
- Promote the sharing of information with team members and at all management levels.
- Participate and assist in attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining top caliber talent for the Company

System and Process Development and Improvement
Create, edit, publish, and maintain project controls standard operating procedures for use by project teams and the CompanyLeading the team to develop and produce weekly, monthly, and special reports and hold equivalent meetings in a timely manner for the operations groups to monitor progress and status of projectsDevelop or refine project controls systems, challenging obsolete practices, questioning accepted truths, and eliminating non-value-added processes all for the purpose of enhancing project and Company performanceAdvocate for analysis of business practices and adoption of best practicesIdentify and act on opportunities to improve processes both within the organization and business unitsProject Controls Training, Auditing, and Controlling
Perform reviews and undertake both site and office-based audits of project teams' implementation and use of project controls processes, systems, and tools in the field, generate corrective action recommendations for leadership approval, and track related corrective actions to closureOversee and guide the implementation, training, and support activities for operations groups and project teams on all project controls processes, systems, and tools on a rolling basis to ensure all necessary project team members can proficiently use and comply with such systemAssist in the creation and actively participate in the Company's project management trainingOther Company Business Strategy and Planning

Education and Work Experience Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related majorProject Management Professional (PMP), Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification and / or Project Scheduling Professional (PSPPMI-SP) certification preferred15+ years of experience in project management and / or project controls5+ years of supervisory experienceRenewable energy construction experience preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :
