Overview
Ochsner Children’s Hospital in New Orleans is seeking a BC / BE Pediatric CV Surgeon to join our growing Congenital Heart Center. The successful candidate will join a busy clinical practice and be expected to equally divide the caseload with the long-standing senior surgeon. The candidate will also have the opportunity to assume leadership of the program within a 5-year framework. Construction of a new Children’s hospital tower is underway with occupancy expected in late 2027 / 2028.
Program context
The congenital heart program at Ochsner Children’s is the only full-service program in the state, performing all levels of complex surgeries as well as housing the only transplant and mechanical assist program in Louisiana. The program is perpetually ranked in the USNWR top children’s cardiology and cardiac surgery programs and is the only program in the state to ever achieve such ranking. A busy adult congenital program is accredited by the Adult Congenital Heart Association. The new surgeon will join a long-standing team with a well-developed support structure for surgical outcomes and is expected to function well in a team setting.
Ochsner’s Congenital Heart Program includes a full-service pediatric cardiology practice with busy outreach locations and a busy pediatric cardiac catheterization program. It is supported by a dedicated pediatric cardiac intensive care unit and a growing practice that aligns with Ochsner Health’s ongoing regional growth.
About Ochsner Children’s
Ochsner Children’s comprises more than 85 primary care pediatricians and over 290 pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists in 27 locations across Louisiana and Mississippi. The network offers a full range of complex specialty services including congenital heart surgery and cardiac transplantation, liver and bone marrow transplantation, advanced GI and Hepatology, Hematology-Oncology and AYA Oncology, and a comprehensive surgical sub-specialty group including Cleft Palate / Cranio-Facial Surgery, advanced spine surgery and the Gulf South’s only comprehensive, multidisciplinary developmental pediatrics center. It includes a 67-bed Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a 14-bed PICU, a 12-bed pediatric CV-ICU, a NAEC-accredited level IV unit, a 4-bed Pediatric EMU and a 44-bed Pediatric Acute Care unit with a dedicated pediatric emergency room and 24-7 pediatric and neonatal transport teams.
Ochsner Children’s is building a new 5-story Children’s Hospital on the main campus in New Orleans with occupancy planned for early 2028.
Residency, teaching and collaboration
Ochsner Children’s Hospital has an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program and participates in teaching pediatric residents from the Tulane-Ochsner Pediatric Residency program and medical students from Tulane and the University of Queensland. Ochsner Health and Xavier University of Louisiana have announced an agreement to establish the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine, currently in LCME accreditation. Our faculty publishes extensively and leads multiple multi-center studies and trials.
