Job description

The Opportunity

This is the next-level position which works under the direction of an immediate supervisor or higher-level examiner. Accountable for the collection and processing of annuity and income settlement claims. Determine benefits and prepare appropriate documents and / or supplementary contracts. Provide information to beneficiaries, policyholders, agents and other interested parties. Follow established procedures and guidelines.

The Team

The Annuity / Income Settlement Team is comprised of a Team Consultant, 9 Claim Examiners (6 Annuity and 3 Income Settlement) and a Policyholder Services Specialist who supports the holds, follow up and SSA processes. The team works collaboratively and supports one another in their daily work and has a relentless focus on our customers and advisors. The team takes pride in delivering on the ultimate promise that Mass Mutual has made to help people secure their futures and protect the ones they love.

The Impact

In this role you will service our individuals who are the recipient of annuity death claim proceeds. You will adjudicate the claim from the first notice of death to receiving requirements and paying the claim. This role requires communication with beneficiaries and advisors to provide information and guidance on the claim process. It requires agility to flex from one task to another and a high level of accountability for your caseload and production.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED / HiSET
  • 2+ years of annuity product or service knowledge or claims processing experience

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous Annuity claim examination experience
  • Familiarity with Polaris, WMA, and Vantage systems
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills, written & oral
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking skills a must
  • Critical thinker with ability to anticipate customers’ needs
  • Decision making skills
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to deal with adversity and work in the gray area
