Job Title : Driver License Field Examiner

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver License Field Examiner to join our team in Sheridan, Wyoming. This is a public-facing, customer service-focused role where you'll assist individuals by issuing ID cards, driver's licenses, and commercial driver licenses, as well as administering written and road tests. You'll play a key role in helping customers navigate the licensing process while ensuring public safety. This position offers a $2,000 hiring bonus (eligibility details in the notes section).

Essential functions include issuing all types of driver licenses, handicap placards, gun permits, and identification cards; checking and verifying applicants' driving records on state and national computer information systems; administering computer-assisted, written, vision, and skills tests to applicants for the purpose of obtaining a driver's license; screening applicant's physical, mental, and visual abilities to safely operate motor vehicles per state and federal law; collecting fees and accounting for transactions performed and monies received; accurately entering, processing, tracking, and reviewing biological / demographic data; processing data related to driver's license and driver record information; researching and communicating information concerning driver's license or driver record data with law enforcement, courts, the public, and the department and other states; producing written documentation to customers; maintaining confidentiality in the review of personal information to determine eligibility for a driver's license; deciphering legal documents; accounting for funds received as payments for fees; verifying and processing electronic and manual insurance filings and cancellations; providing quality customer service and / or technical assistance to the public, driver license examiners, department personnel, and other agencies regarding the driver licensing process; operating signature and photo capture devices; monitoring motor vehicle accidents regarding proof of insurance issues and suspension proceedings; and performing vehicle inspections prior to driving skills testing.

Qualifications

Knowledge of the examiner's procedural manual, rules, and regulations; knowledge of pertinent federal policies and procedures, as well as state statutes; and knowledge of the Driver License Information System. Knowledge of detecting fraudulent documents.

Minimum qualifications : Education : Associate's Degree (typically in Business) or 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in business) OR 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in business). Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : None.

Necessary Special Requirements

Physical working conditions include travel to various WYDOT locations.

Notes :

FLSA : Non-Exempt. Applicants must pass an FBI fingerprint check. A successful applicant will be subjected to a thorough background investigation. • One year of service to WYDOT must be completed; failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive; funds will be recouped from final pay.
