The SICU Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for applying the nursing process and delivery of patient care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), sometimes referred to as Post Anesthesia Care Units (PACUs). The Registered Nurse consistently performs according to nursing standards and is accountable for managing patient care post-operatively and assisting others in the management of patients as they come out of anesthesia.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient carePerforms focused interview to identify specific patient’s needsAssesses signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient’s conditionCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from health care members and documents actual and / or potential nursing diagnosesPlans for expected outcomes of care for those patients assignedClosely observes patients for signs of side effects of anesthesia medicationTreats pain, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms of anesthesiaCommunicates nursing interventions, expected outcomes, and the time frames for expected completion, to other members of the hospital health care teamFunctions as a resource to the health care team members in planning for patient’s dischargeDocuments the patient’s plan of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursing interventionsIdentifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient care requirementsPerforms interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standardProvides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environmentInitiates and evaluates patient and / or family educationCompares expected and actual outcomes of care and identifies deviation from the plan of carePerforms other duties as assigned / necessaryMinimum Requirements :
Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices2 years of SICU, PACU or ICU experience preferredCPAN and CAPA certifications preferredACLS may be required per state / contractComplies with all relevant professional standards of practiceParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable to job siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirementsAbility to effectively elicit / provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of ageBenefits At Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits :
