Position summary : JMT’s hands-on Internship Program provides opportunity to work first-hand on real projects with experienced staff in our Longview, Texas office. Responsible for various tasks and projects to enhance their experience in the field utilizing their education. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT / OPT / STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Enter data into systems

Make edits and updates to existing engineering drawings and projects in MicroStation with Power Geopak and OpenRoads Designer

Obtain design data from adjacent or similar projects and go-bys

Work with a team to coordinate new small-scale projects

Assemble data and research such as specific design standards and site information

Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals

Assist with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized engineering projects

Develop and prepare specifications

Maintain accurate and current project documentation

Participate in weekly seminars and end-of-internship presentation through the JMT Internship Program

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required SkillsRequired Experience

  • Full time student, currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in civil engineering with an interest in transportation projects
  • Qualifications Preferred

    Coursework in related field

    Previous internship experience

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
