RNs must be able to assist with respiratory medications, equipment, and intubation. RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips. Description : The department treats a diverse patient population with various medical needs. Common diagnoses include acute illnesses, severe injuries, chest pain, respiratory distress, and neurological emergencies. The ER sees patients with allergic reactions, infectious diseases, intoxication, and psychiatric emergencies. Trauma cases include stabbings, shootings, fractures, burns, and domestic injuries. Nurse-to-patient ratios may vary from 1 : 4 for stable patients to 1 : 1 or 1 : 2 for critically ill patients. Staffing levels may dynamically adjust based on patient influx and acuity. The facility does not have a separate triage area; travelers are required to triage patients. There is no separate holding area in the ER; however, ER holds are intermixed, and critical patients are transferred to a higher level of care. Security presence is managed through local authorities as needed. On average, the ER treats between 8 to 25 patients daily. A full-time coordinator assists with trauma and critical patients during shifts. There is a full-time tech available during the day, with float support during the night. Respiratory therapy is available on-call 24 / 7, with in-house coverage during the day shift. The Rapid Response Team and lab personnel assist with medication administration and lab draws. Weekend requirements involve working 2 out of every 6 weekends. Holiday scheduling is necessary, and requests for time off should be submitted in advance. Travelers may float based on staffing needs and skill set to medical-surgical units or provide support for behavioral patients. Scrub color is flexible, and the environment is fast-paced.
