Job Summary
The LCSW provides a full range of evidence-based social work services / interventions. Social workers use patient-centered interventions that are influenced by the patient's diagnostic condition(s) and their cognitive, psychological, and emotional functioning. Social workers use effective communication when interacting with patients with an understanding of the patient's learning style and physical abilities, support system, living environment, and social determinants of health.
The LCSW may be asked to participate in special projects and collect data to improve the quality of services delivered to patients. The LCSW will participate in peer review and individual supervision. The supervisor and manager have total responsibility for work assigned, work schedules, performance evaluations, corrective action, promotion, and dismissal.
Social work services include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Biopsychosocial assessments
- Crisis interventions
- Psychiatric diagnostic evaluations informed by the current DSM
- Suicide risk and safety planning
- Supportive counseling & grief counseling
- Abuse / neglect-mandated reporting
- Supporting victims of violence and / or human trafficking
- Symptom reduction & harm reduction
- Identification of unknown patients & locating next of kin
- Education and support to patients and families around issues related to adaptation to the patient's diagnosis, illness, treatment, and / or life situation
- Facilitating linkage to vital community-based resources for patients and families who are experiencing significant emotional, social, environmental, or financial stress due to hospitalization, acute, chronic, or terminal illness, and / or who need help in meeting their continuing care needs
Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) are available on-site 24 hours a day and work variable hours, which may include occasional overtime, flexible scheduling, and weekend and holiday shifts to meet the operational needs of the Clinical Social Services department.
