Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION :

  • EDUCATION DIRECTOR POSITION / JOB TITLE : Education Director STATUS : Full Time / Exempt SALARY : 95,000 REPORTS TO : EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR / HS PROGRAM DIRECTOR SALARY RANGE : $89,000- SUPERVISES : Education Site Managers; Coaches   JOB SUMMARY : The Education Director is responsible for the early childhood education functions of the organization.
  • The position sets the educational approach of the program and ensures implementation of the selected evidenced-based curriculum to fidelity, as well as effective implementation of a system for ongoing child assessment designed to promote children’s development and learning.
  • The position works with the HS Management Team to establish School Readiness Goals and monitors and supports progress towards goals to ensure the program’s effectiveness in achieving its School Readiness Goals.
  • The position ensures the early childhood learning services are supported by staff / consultants with training and experience in areas that include the theories and principles of child growth and development, early childhood education and family support.

The Education Director ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including the Head start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, the NYC Department of Health, and NYC Department of Education regulations, as well as all BSECDC policies and procedures.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provide leadership, support, and supervision to Education Site Managers (ESM) and Coaches;
  • Collaborate with the ESMs and HS Management Team to develop the policies, procedures, and written plans for educational services;
  • Monitor compliance with work plans, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and other regulations; develop ongoing monitoring plan for continuous improvement and evaluation.
  • In conjunction with the ESMs and coaches, provide oversight of classroom practices, room arrangements, daily schedules, routines and transitions to assure the adherence to program policies;
  • Promote cultural competence and universal values of respect, compassion, and tolerance among staff and children by ensuring the curriculum implementation includes global education, multiculturalism, and peaceful classroom concepts;
  • Develop School Readiness Goals in collaboration with coaches, members of the Management Team, parents, and program staff; oversee implementation of the School Readiness Goals and makes revisions as necessary;
  • Monitor child outcomes data for completion and quality by aggregating and disaggregating assessment data and analyzing results and develop plans in response to support children’s progress towards child outcomes and school readiness goals;
  • Assist teaching staff in understanding and interpreting child outcomes data and establishing appropriate individual child and aggregate classroom goals;
  • Provide child outcomes reports to the Executive Director, Board, and Policy Council;
  • Collaborate with the Family Services Coordinator and ESMs to ensure parent involvement in education services (e.g., parent-teacher conferences; home visits; home-school engagement);
  • Develop a system for regular classroom observations using valid and reliable instruments such as the CLASS, ECERS-R, and Creative Curriculum Fidelity tools; analyze results of data to inform service area plans, curriculum strategies, continuous program improvement, training, professional development, and coaching of teaching staff;
  • Assist individual staff members in identifying their training needs and improving their knowledge and abilities;
  • Oversee the implementation of professional development plans and ensure their proper alignment with the results of child outcomes data;
  • Work cooperatively with other service area managers; integrate with all comprehensive services provided to children;
  • Act as education point of contact and represent BSECDC at meetings and local community events;
  • Monitor the education services budget;
  • Support the use of technology and data management systems by staff to promote efficiency, reliability, and accuracy in data analysis and reporting;
  • Provide monthly reflective supervision for all supervisees;
  • Complete annual performance evaluations for all supervisees, including establishing and monitoring goals for performance improvement and / or professional development and corrective action plans, if needed;
  • Participate in all Management Team Meetings and Education Team meetings, including internal School Readiness Committee meetings and external meetings at the Administration for Children and Families’ office and NYC Department of Education / UPK Division;
  • Participate in the recruitment and hiring of new staff, as requested, including scheduling and participating in interviews and providing orientation;
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including trainings, workshops, and  conferences;
  • Display professionalism, mutual respect, and integrity towards other BSECDC staff members,  families, and visitors at all times;
  • Ensure complete, accurate, and timely completion of all required record-keeping, data collection  and analysis, documentation, and paperwork, including child files and reports to the Director, the  Administration for Children’s Services, the NYC Department of Education and other parties as  requested;
  • In collaboration with the Management Team, use information from ongoing monitoring and the  annual self-assessment to identify program needs and develop and implement plans for program  improvement;
  • Follow all applicable BSECDC policies and procedures, including the Standards of Conduct to  safeguard children from abuse, neglect, or exploitation while in the care of the Center.
  • Implement fully all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations as cited in the  Head Start Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, IDEA, IFSP, FERPA, ACYFIM, Department of  Education and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Health Licensing Code, Article 47 NAEYC.
  • Assist with federal, state and local reporting requirements;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE :
  • Masters in Early Childhood Education with State Certification
  • A minimum of two-years of supervisory experience
  • A minimum of two-years of experience in the classroom as teacher of a group of  preschoolers.
  • Certified Pre-K Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) Observer, preferred
  • Education affiliations a plus   COMPETENCIES
  • Excellent communication, verbal, reading and writing skills, and cultural competency
  • Ability to administer screenings, assessments
  • Ability to assess the classroom environment using formal and informal observations, including  the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS)
  • Ability to assess teacher / child interactions using the CLASS
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff and colleagues
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with staff
  • Ability to display through interactions with families, staff and colleagues universal values of  tolerance, mutual respect, and compassion Must maintain on files an updated medical report with complete immunizations.
  • Medical report must ascertain that individual is physically fit to work with young children and participates fully in any physical activities required by the program curriculum and the position.
