Description :
SEDOL has openings for a full time 1 : 1 Registered Nurse for the 2025-2026 School Year. The Special Education District of Lake County is a comprehensive special education cooperative providing services for students with disabilities preschool through age 21. Nursing services are provided on a building based, itinerant and / or one -to-one basis for students with significant medical issues.

Direct Supervisor : Principal / Sector Supervisor, Coordinator of Nursing
Qualifications : License as Illinois Registered Nurse. Pediatric acute care skills for medically fragile with disabilities preferred.
Illinois Registered Nurse license
Baccalaureate Degree preferred
Current CPR-AED certification for the Professional Rescuer
Computer literacy
Competency in the use of current medical technology
Prior professional nursing experience, preferably pediatric, adolescent, community or mental health nursing, and health program management
Performance Responsibilities :
General Responsibilities :
All SEDOL registered nurses should be able to work in any assignment within the SEDOL community. SEDOL will provide training and assure all nurses have appropriate skills prior to making assignments. All nursing assignments are made based on the needs of the students. Bachelor's prepared registered nurses will be expected to attain the RN-IEP designation or Certified School Nurse (CSN) certification within 2 years. The nursing assignments at SEDOL may require travel. Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.
Coordination :
1.Administer a coordinated school health program in cooperation with the school nurse.
2.Collect and analyze epidemiological and other school health information.
3.Assess the health and safety needs of the school environment; implement bloodbornepathogens control and reinforce universal precautions.
4.Participate in maintaining school health records and promote compliance with health-related regulations such as immunizations and school physicals as outlined in the IllinoisSchool Code and by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
5.Participate in the development of health-related policies and procedures in compliancewith state mandates / current health practices in cooperation with the school nurse.
Clinical Practice :
1.Provide direct nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students includingnursing assessment, identifying health problems, making referrals for diagnosis and treatment,recommending educational modifications, providing follow-up and evaluation, and maintainingappropriate documentation.
2.Administer medication, routine tests and / or treatments in accordance with SEDOL's policyand procedures.
3.Maintain accurate medical records and documentation including immunizations, physicalexaminations, and medical conditions.oDevelop individual health care plans for students requiring special nursingprocedures during the school day.oComplete a Health History for students having a case study evaluation and aHealth History Update for those students having a three-year evaluation inconsultation with the school nurse.
4.Provide health information and counseling for students, parents, and staff.
5.Recommend modification of school programs for students who may require changes dueto their medical status. RN-IEP designees may provide educational recommendations to theIEP educational team based on student's health needs.
6.Make appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse / neglect as a mandatedreporter.
7.Accompany students on mobility trips as indicated by their medical status or IEP.
8.Provide nursing assistance to others in the department : 1 : 1 nurse, SEDOL program nursesand agency nurses.
9.A registered nurse may be assigned as a 1 : 1 nurse, if the IEP team determines that astudent is so medically fragile that continual monitoring of health needs and / or equipment isrequired. This 1 : 1 assignment may also include the bus trip to and from school.
Health Office Management and Communication :
1.Maintain an organized and efficient health services facility.
2.Maintain communication with administrators, teachers, other school personnel, andparents / guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the health and safety needs ofstudents.
3.Communicate with and act as a liaison between the home, school community health agenciesand the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.
4.Participate in staffings, case reviews, annual reviews and parent conferences. Attend facultymeetings.
6.Work with community agencies for effective use of their resources and facilities.
7.Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the nursing coordinator and / or principal / sectorsupervisor.
Professional Development :
1.Participate as a member of professional nursing organizations and utilize continuing educationopportunities to enhance professional knowledge in both nursing and education fields.
2.Participate as an active member of the school community representing health / wellness.
3.Will maintain state licensure by meeting the Continuing Education Requirements.
4.Provide staff education about students' medical needs as needed.
5.Maintain good daily attendance.
6.Attend monthly nurse's meeting.
7.Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator for the betterment of the program and district.
Salary : per FY25 $44,799 - $72,440 (FY26 contract under negotiation) , based on education and experience.
