This role includes evaluation, treatment planning, documentation, patient education, collaboration with the care team, and participation in departmental operations and professional development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Care Perform evaluative and therapeutic procedures under the order of a physician or other qualified provider while following all precautions, indications, and contraindications. Evaluate patients per departmental protocols and establish a therapeutic plan of care including : Long- and short-term functional goals Frequency and duration of services Appropriate therapeutic modalities Incorporate patient and caregiver input into the plan of care and therapy goals. Monitor patient progress and modify the treatment plan as necessary to meet functional goals. Document all evaluations and treatments in the Electronic Medical Record using clear language and approved abbreviations. Recommend, obtain, and provide instruction for appropriate assistive devices. Provide patient and / or caregiver education and document outcomes. Refer to and collaborate with Physical Therapist Assistants and other therapy staff as appropriate. Maintain compliance with PPS, Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations. Orthopedic Practice Provide services for patients following joint replacement surgery according to St. Mary's Hip & Knee Replacement Interdisciplinary Team standards. Complete required education for hip and knee replacement care following DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program requirements. Collaboration & Communication Provide consultation to referring physicians and healthcare team members regarding patient care and discharge needs. Attend and participate in relevant team meetings. Provide in-service training to nursing and other departments regarding clinical skills and knowledge. Participate in development of new programs and services in Physical Therapy. Documentation & Compliance Document patient care with attention to requirements for Medicare, Medicaid, Private Pay, and Workers' Compensation. Complete all operational paperwork including daily charges and Medicare Certifications as required. Participate in Quality Improvement activities such as Chart Review Monitors. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment following all infection control procedures. Professional Development & Leadership Maintain clinical competence through continuing education, workshops, conferences, and professional literature. Share knowledge gained through conferences with departmental staff. Participate in professional organizations and bring relevant issues to staff attention. Attend department staff meetings (or review / sign off on missed meeting minutes). Supervise assistant-level staff in accordance with education, training, and state regulations; report performance issues to the Director. Mentor new staff during orientation and ensure completion of orientation checklists and competencies. Serve as Clinical Instructor for students per departmental procedures (required for PTs after two years of experience). Support student learning and contribute to a welcoming and educational environment for students. Operational Responsibilities Perform operational duties promptly and efficiently. Assist with routine equipment and space cleaning and maintenance. Other duties as assigned and consistent with the role. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English instructions. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required; Master's or Doctorate preferred. Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) in the State of Maine. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
