Telecom Engineer II
Charlotte, NC - hybrid; 3x / week in University Area
12 month contract with strong likelihood of extension and / or hire
This position / role is in support of ongoing and emerging work across the Enterprise network. The work involves designing, testing, and implementing new circuits for our customers' network. This position is primarily responsible for the design, map, build and documentation of circuits on the private network. Experience with microwave, radio, transport, and grid communication networks and the build-out and documentation of these networks is desired. Knowledge of power systems is a plus. In addition to design and implementation of circuits, this position will provide 3rd level support as needed. While most work is expected to be during normal business hours, some cutover and support activities will be required outside normal business hours.
Responsibilities :
- The successful candidate will develop telecommunications solutions to address business needs including the planning, designing, implementing, testing and documentation of the communication systems & network components. This candidate will develop support processes to better enable 1st and 2nd level support teams to handle support issues along with providing 3rd level advance support as needed.
- The positions primary responsibilities will include the following :
- Design, map, build and label private circuits across various regional areas.
- Work closely with the Carrier Services team on designing and implementing leased circuits.
- Complete all documentation and label equipment with circuit ID as needed to reserve bandwidth for the circuit.
- When required, write clear and detailed instructions for Field Services and Network Operations Center (NOC) for test, turn-up and cross connects on private circuits.
Required Qualifications :
Graduate from a college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Network Engineering, Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 5 years of related Telecom Engineer experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 10 years direct Telecom experience with Carrier Optical Engineer and / or ProvisioningMinimum of 5 years direct experience with Carrier Optical Engineer, Network Engineer and / or ProvisioningStrong written and oral communication skills.Desired Qualifications :
Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.Ability to work well within a team, either as a lead or peer member.Effective interpersonal relationship skills.Effective verbal & written communications skills.Basic Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio ExperienceDirect hands-on experience with Ciena 39xx, 6500, MCP / Navigator, SEL Icon and IMUX carrier optical equipment.Direct hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches, Opengear and NetGuardian management / monitoring devices, and Cambium / Nokia microwave devicesDirect hands-on experience with Telecom UPS & DC Plant systems including Eltek, Vertiv, Powerware, and Delta.Fundamental knowledge of Agile methodology, Kanban, and Jira.Experience with Service Now tools and processes.Experience with Corporate Documentation Systems (e.g. CAST Pro).
