Job Title : Registered Nurse Profession : RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty : High Acuity Unit - Intensive Care Unit Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 12-hour nights Hours per Shift : 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM), rotating weekends and holidays Experience : Minimum of 1 year License : Active Illinois license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications : BLS, ACLS Must-Have : Caring for sedated, ventilated patients Experience with PEG tube care / feedings Experience with CVC / PICC / Midline usage and care Experience with tracheostomy patients Titrating vasopressors, sedation, and pain control drips Description : The unit has a total of 8 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 2-3. Common patient diagnoses include respiratory failure, post-surgical cases, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, and cardiac patients. RNs are required to titrate drips including Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine, and Cardizem. A house supervisor is available 24 / 7. Nurses provide primary care in the ICU, as there are no nursing aides or patient care techs. A hospitalist or intensivist is on site during the day shift; a tele-health MD is available after hours. Respiratory therapy is in-house 24 / 7. Nurses are required to troubleshoot with respiratory equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices. All ICU beds are equipped with hard-wired telemetry monitors that are centrally monitored by a telemetry tech stationed within the unit. Nurses are responsible for reading their own telemetry strips. 12-hour shifts are standard, with weekend requirements every other week and holiday rotations. There may be floating requirements for ICU RNs to the medical-surgical unit. Scrubs are the required attire. Orientation includes classroom training and two shifts on the unit with a preceptor. The charting system used is Epic. A BSN is not required. This position is in an acute care setting.
