Join Our Mission :

The ASPCA Spay / Neuter Alliance (ASNA) is the leading training center for high-quality, high-volume companion animal sterilization, altering up to 20,000 animals each year. Since our inception in 2005, we've trained over 6,500 veterinary professionals and fourth-year veterinary student externs. We are dedicated to providing exceptional surgical instruction and setting the standard for care in HQHVSN.

The Veterinarian, Training Specialist (VTS) plays a vital role in our operations by performing and teaching medical and surgical techniques, leading surgical teams, and developing training materials. You will rotate between various campus programs and travel as needed to provide exceptional training services. As a key member of our team, you will mentor trainees and ensure all medical and surgical practices meet our high standards. The position requires excellent communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to handle responsibilities both independently and as part of a team. This position reports to the Director, Veterinarians (DV) and is based in Asheville, North Carolina.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform and oversee veterinary services, ensuring adherence to ASNA's high standards and regulations.
  • Conduct companion animal surgeries and provide medical care utilizing HQHVSN techniques.
  • Mentor and instruct trainees in all aspects of veterinary medicine and surgical procedures.
  • Ensure a safe and inviting environment for animals, staff, and trainees.
  • Participate in daily operations and manage surgical team performance.
  • Contribute to educational development by creating training materials and evaluating trainees.
  • Engage in maintaining compliance with drug regulations and operational safety.
  • Drive transport vehicles as needed and assist in various roles within the team.

Qualifications Required :

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent from an accredited veterinary school.
  • Valid NC veterinarian license or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Must pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) or equivalent.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience in clinical settings, particularly in soft tissue surgery.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience in HQHVSN and medical team leadership.
  • Experience in a teaching or high-intensity coaching environment.
  • Compensation :
