Level 3 or 4 NICU experience is required. No charge experience is required. The position will float between units based on needs. On-call is required as standby when not needed on the unit. Weekends are required with a variable and rotating schedule. Block schedules are not required. The expected patient ratio is 1 : 3. Shifts will typically rotate between days and nights every 2-4 weeks. The manager ensures appropriate time between a night shift and a dayshift if rotated. Floating to other units based on skill sets is common. Travelers may float to other facilities as needed. The patient population includes premature infants over 28 weeks gestation and term infants requiring medical care. Charge nurse responsibilities include staffing the unit, making patient assignments, and oversight of the unit. Experience in attending high-risk deliveries is preferred. Knowledge of ventilator management and patient care is essential. Travelers are expected to float between facilities when necessary. Refusal to float may result in termination of the assignment. All required communication devices will be supplied for the responsibilities of the role. Modules are necessary for compliance but are not billable.
