Oncology Pharmacy Technician - Full-Time Days

Pharmacy Technicians / Oncology assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing chemotherapy / medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records in the Cayuga Cancer Center pharmacy. They have additional training in compounding sterile medications both hazardous and non-hazardous, in the efficient management of inventory for an infusion pharmacy, and in administrative processes that supports the supervising oncology pharmacist and Cancer Center staff and maintain competencies for both hazardous and non-hazardous compounding per regulations. Their increased exposure to hazardous agents requires advanced training and as such their role is more specialized than the other pharmacy technician roles in CHS. Pharmacy Technicians / Oncology participate in Investigation Drug studies and research and maintain competencies with the requirements of study protocols. They work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Roles and Responsibilities :

• Procures, distributes, and replenishes medications per physician or pharmacist requests, ensuring compliance with policies and protocols.
• Maintains perpetual inventory by evaluating upcoming treatments and ordering necessary medications and supplies.
• Prepares, labels, and packages medications, including sterile pharmaceutical compounds, for pharmacist verification, adhering to USP

and

guidelines.
