Here's a summary of responsibilities :

The Senior Director of Games Operations is responsible for the comprehensive strategic oversight, planning, and execution of all multi-sport Games in which the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) participates. This includes the Summer Olympic & Paralympic Games, Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games, Pan & Parapan American Games, Junior Pan American Games, Youth Olympic Summer Games, Youth Olympic Winter Games, and Youth Parapan American Games. The Senior Director serves as a key liaison with international partners, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Panam Sports, and relevant organizing committees, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective representation. The Senior Director leads a high-performing team and fosters a culture where individuals feel valued and empowered. The role requires strong strategic leadership, decision-making skills, and the ability to build and nurture relationships while promoting inclusion and collaboration across functional areas.

Strategic Oversight & Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive strategic plans for all multi-sport Games, ensuring alignment with USOPC’s mission to support elite athletes and achieve sustained competitive excellence. Develop short- and long-term strategies to create a successful Games experience.
  • Ensure effective collaboration with USOPC divisions (Sport Performance, Sports Medicine, Security & Athlete Services, NGB Services & Sport Operations, OPTCs, Logistics, Marketing, Media, International Relations, IT, Security, People & Culture, Development, and Executive teams) to create Games environments that meet the needs of Team USA athletes, staff, coaches, donors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee budget development and allocation across all Games Operations, ensuring financial accountability and resource optimization.

Games Preparation & Delivery

  • Oversee the planning, staffing, sport integration, logistics, and execution for all multi-sport Games. Develop contingency plans to address challenges and ensure seamless Games operations.
  • Provide strategic oversight of Games accreditation / access, athlete and delegation housing, delegation management, and other critical operational components.
  • Collaborate with Logistics to ensure smooth processes, clear communication, and shared accountability in Games delivery.
  • Oversee pre-Games processes, including village(s) planning, rate card, signage / look & feel, branding strategies, and pre-opening operations. Manage strategic planning for gifting, Chef de Mission coins / pins, and other operational elements.
  • Partner with Sport Performance, Security & Athlete Services, Sports Medicine, Logistics, and other key USOPC functional areas to implement effective Games preparation and execution plans, seamless workflows, and optimal performance environments for USOPC team members and Team USA.
  • Focusing on athlete performance and well-being, collaborate with Sport & Athlete Services and designated partners to determine, develop, and clearly communicate key Games policies and plans, including but not limited to period of stay, accreditation allocation, Ceremonies marching passes, and the Team USA Welcome Experience.
  • Ensure a seamless transition from the Olympic to the Paralympic Games.
  • Oversee completion of all post-Games after-action and / or post-Games surveys / reporting.
  • Serve in Games leadership role to coordinate information and facilitate decision-making across functional areas. Serve as the Games coordination officer to ensure all functional areas and decision-makers have the information they need to support a successful Games environment for Team USA athletes, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Key Partnerships & Representation

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with external partners, including the IOC, IPC, Panam Sports, International Federations, and Games Organizing Committees (OCOGs). Serve as the USOPC’s key representative in these collaborative relationships to ensure a successful Games experience.
  • Represent the USOPC in NOC engagement groups, NPC experts groups, IOC / IPC Coordination Commissions, and Chef de Mission seminars. Lead preparations and strategy for these engagements. Disseminate relevant information as appropriate to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee key Games deliverables, including quota acceptance notifications, sport entries, delegation management, and accreditation strategies.
  • Ensure effective communication strategies are in place, including the Team USA Delegation App, crisis management, Games-specific updates, newsletters, webinars, leadership briefings, and Games-specific daily coordination calls.
  • Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of Games Operations leaders, providing strategic direction, leadership, and guidance to ensure high performance and professional development. Manage performance of team members effectively.
  • Create and foster a positive and inclusive team culture where staff feel valued, recognized, and empowered to perform their best work. Promote a sense of ownership, partnership, and accountability across the team through clear expectations, frequent communication, and fair and consistent feedback.
  • Serve as a decisive yet inclusive leader, balancing swift decision-making with opportunities for innovation and risk-taking, team input, and collaboration.
  • Support and / or represent the SVP, Chief of Training Centers & Games Operations with key initiatives and / or meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective :

  • Bachelor’s degree in sport administration or equivalent work experience
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid passport
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • 12+ years of experience in sports management or event management
  • Experience with a National Governing Body (NGB), elite sport organization, or Organizing Committee preferred
  • Experience leading teams in a dynamic, complex, multi-faceted environment
  • Proven business management and / or strategic planning experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively in international, multi-cultural settings
  • Teamwork skills with ability to work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders to achieve mission and goals
  • Strong business acumen, including contract negotiation, budget development and management, and strategic planning
  • Ability to think creatively and generate fresh ideas to business aspects
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Exemplary analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to partner across stakeholders (internal and external) to develop shared accountabilities and vision in collaborative projects

  • Ability to successfully work and live in non-traditional environments at Games or meeting sites (including shared rooms, as appropriate)
  • Ability to travel extensively in domestic and foreign environments
  • Ability to work non-traditional and extensive hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, sometimes for successive days / weeks
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential job function

    Here's some more information you need to know :

  • Hiring pay range $124,086 - $157,589 per year
  • This Full-Time, Exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
  • Bonus : This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 20% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
