PostgreSQL Database Specialist

Column Technical Services is seeking a highly experienced PostgreSQL Database Specialist to provide remote, part-time support for our application through proactive database audits and real-time performance troubleshooting. This role requires deep expertise in PostgreSQL 15 and PG Pool-II for load balancing, high availability, and performance optimization. The ideal candidate will work closely with our teams to ensure database reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities : -Proactive Auditing : Conduct regular audits of PostgreSQL databases to identify potential risks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.-Real-Time Performance Support : Respond to live performance issues, diagnose root causes, and implement solutions with minimal disruption.-Load Balancing Expertise : Configure and manage PG Pool-II for efficient query routing, connection pooling, and failover handling.-Replication & HA : Maintain robust replication setups and high availability configurations to ensure data consistency and uptime.-Monitoring & Alerts : Set up and fine-tune monitoring tools (, Prometheus, Grafana, pgAdmin) to track performance metrics and alert on anomalies.-Backup & Recovery : Validate and improve backup strategies including Point-in-Time-Recovery (PITR), pg_basebackup, and pg_dump.-Collaboration : Partner with development and infrastructure teams to support deployments, schema changes, and capacity planning.

Qualifications : -Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL 15 in production environments.-Proven expertise in PG Pool-II configuration and management.-Solid understanding of replication, High Availability (HA) and disaster recovery strategies.-Experience with performance tuning and query optimization.-Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools.-Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
