    Lead and manage environment programs, assess and make recommendations for sustainability programs, and provide project management on an ad hoc basis.

  • Valid vehicle driver's license

  • Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (Environmental Science, Engineering or Environmental Studies preferred)
  • 3+ years' experience with Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements such as Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Spill Prevention and Countermeasures Plan (SPCC).
  • 2+ years' experience in a rail organization preferred.
  • General knowledge of Clean Air Act, Massachusetts Contingency Plan, Right of Way Vegetation Management, Wetlands Protection Act.
  • Other preferred software (GIS, StreamStats)
  • Key Accountabilities

    Program Management

  • Manage the schedule of environmental services to ensure compliance with the MBTA Operating Agreement and environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Support the company's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Conduct environmental inspections and audits and prepare respective reports.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve findings related to environmental inspections and audits.
  • Manage the Vegetation Management Plan and Yearly Operating Plan.
  • Support and manage (as required) the RCRA, NPDES, SPCC and tanks program.
  • Manage flammable permits.
  • Organize cleanups along the right of way.
  • Represent the Environmental Department in the Chemical Assessment Safety team (CAST).
  • Support the functions required for execution of environmental permits and works on the parking contract.
  • Comply with and ensure staff compliance with all environmental, health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Projects and Other Environment Initiatives

  • Review and provide Environment SME contributions to new projects.
  • Manage environmental and sustainability campaigns and improvement projects.
  • Lead collaborative efforts with the rest of the business to ensure environmental and sustainability improvements.
  • Undertake other activities as required by the Director of Environment & Sustainability.
  • Organizational Specific

  • Oversee verification activities associated with financial matters for the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in a manner that maintains an open and welcoming working relationship.
  • This role may be required to perform other functions under the direction of Director of Environment & Sustainability.
