Job description

WHY JOIN BALLARD MARINE CONSTRUCTION?

Ballard Marine Construction is a specialty marine and underwater contractor based in Washougal, WA, with regional offices and projects throughout North America.

Why join Ballard? It’s simple. You get to work on amazing technical projects with likeminded team members. The Ballard culture is second to none, and because of that we are incredibly protective and particular on who we invite onto the team. We have a unique culture of true excellence; we hold each other accountable from our newest interns and engineers to our most senior leaders. You will always go to work knowing that everyone you are working with cares as much as you do and is working hard to reach common goals. You will get out of it what you put into it. Ballard is an amazing place to work and if what we’ve said resonates with you, you just might be right for us!

Job Summary:

The CAD Specialist is responsible for developing and managing 2D and 3D models, technical drawings, and point cloud-based analyses in support of Ballard Marine Construction’s estimating, engineering, and construction operations. This position plays a critical role in interpreting survey data, existing conditions, and engineering concepts to support proposal development, work planning, and construction execution. The role requires a strong understanding of construction means and methods, spatial data, and industry standards, and regularly interfaces with engineering, estimating, field, and survey teams to improve accuracy, efficiency, and constructability.

Ballard Marine Construction is seeking an experienced mid-level or senior CAD Specialist, with competitive salary ranges aligned to experience and technical expertise.

Ideal Candidate:

Core Attributes:

· Grit and Resiliency - We dig deep to figure out how to make things happen no matter how impossible it seems. We never give up. We take on challenges that nobody else can; or will.

· Comradery and Inspirational - We are a hard-working team of likeminded individuals working toward a common goal. We regularly celebrate wins and like to have fun whether at work or at play. We come together each day looking for ways to instill life and energy into the world around us.

· Driven and Competitive - We love competition. We love to win and love to learn when we lose. Not getting the job done is not an option. We are obsessed to do our best and we do what it takes to win.

· Trustworthy and Respectful - We are passionate about honesty, authenticity and transparency. No lies. No drama. No politics. We value constructive conflict and ensure that even in conflict we treat others with respect.

· Ownership and Accountability - When something goes wrong, we first “look in the mirror” before we “look out the window”. We ask “what could I have done differently?” and then we share lessons learned. Regularly challenging ourselves and those around us to be better is a way of life. “Me first” belongs here.

Education:

· Bachelor’s or Associate degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, drafting, engineering technology, or a related field/equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience:

· 2 -5+ years of experience working with computer-aided drafting (CAD), 3D modeling, and/or point cloud processing software.

· High attention to detail to ensure drawings and models are accurate, complete, and compliant with specifications and standards.

· Clear and effective communication skills, including verbal, written, email, and presentation formats.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

· Knowledge of applicable industry standards, codes, and internal policies and procedures.

· Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Working knowledge of 3D modeling and analysis software such as Civil 3D, Revit, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, HYPACK, ArcGIS, or equivalent platforms.

Responsibilities:

· Use CAD software to create accurate 2D and 3D drawings of existing conditions, fabricated items, site layouts, and temporary works.

· Produce detailed technical drawings based on concepts, specifications, and direction provided by engineers and subject matter experts.

· Apply appropriate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

· Assist with engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials and Engineering Change Orders.

· Prepare graphics and presentations for design reviews, proposals, and internal meetings.

· Coordinate with engineers, estimators, clients, vendors, and subcontractors on design and drafting-related issues.

· Analyze and interpret 3D point cloud data.

· Review and interpret survey reports, maps, drawings, specifications, contracts, aerial imagery, and other site data to support project planning.

· Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with estimating materials, equipment, and labor.

· Develop drawings for temporary structures in accordance with applicable construction and regulatory standards.

· Create sequence drawings and assembly plans for construction crews.

· Maintain drawing templates and coordinate with Traylor to ensure AutoCAD standards remain current.

· Support Quality Control and Quality Assurance efforts as required.

· Perform additional duties as assigned, including travel for meetings, site visits, and training as needed.
