Job Description

Job Title : Interventional Special Procedures Technologist

Profession : IR Tech

Experience : Minimum 1 year experience in Interventional Special Procedures setting in either IR and / or vascular hybrid setting.

License : ARRT Radiography

Certifications : Basic Life Support, BLS Instructor, BLS Provisional

Must-Have :

Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiology Technology.

Able to function independently during procedures after appropriate orientation / competency on unit.

Competency in all aspects of interventional / vascular procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.

Understanding of anatomy and pathology as they affect the quality of a procedure.

Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and display a positive attitude.

Description :

Functions under the direction of the clinical coordinator and / or department manager.

The interventional special procedures technologist assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients.

Performs all exams according to department procedures.

Possesses the knowledge and ability to safely obtain quality diagnostic studies.

Responsible for a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative.

Sets up equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for procedures.

Able to perform procedures in both the IR and vascular hybrid interventional procedural settings.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions :

Completion of VI competencies is required.

Utilizes critical thinking skills.

Works in conjunction with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists.

Prepares the patient for procedures.

Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.

Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedures.

Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedures.

Quality and Patient Safety Responsibilities :

Verifies patient ID using two patient identifiers, such as armband and date of birth.

Verifies the front of the patient chart for same / similar name sticker.

Verifies written order and consent, seeking clarification if unclear.

Uses and understands pre-procedural verification and time-out forms.

Understands and complies with site / side marking when indicated.

Departmental Responsibilities :

Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs.

Able to work scheduled and on-call shifts.

Knows existing lines of communication and authority.

Handles communications properly.

Introduces self to patients and / or guardians utilizing proper scripting.

Transports patients as needed.

Provides privacy and comfort for patients and customers.

Assists with the maintenance of departmental records, standards, and performance improvement.

Completes necessary paperwork.

Answers departmental phone using proper scripting.

Maintains stock levels and expiration dates.

Maintains current licenses and BLS certifications.

Assists in training of other medical imaging staff as appropriate.

Works as a team with other staff to obtain the best possible outcomes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Patient Education Responsibilities :

Responsible for educating patients, families, and support systems.

Provides post-procedural home care instructions as needed.

Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
