Job Summary

Uses skills as an advanced, specialized bioinformatics programming professional with an in-depth understanding of computational algorithms and systems to identify and resolve a wide range of highly complex issues / software bugs where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. May lead or mentor a team of bioinformatics programming professionals.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $119,900 - $210,000 (Annual Rate). Department Description

This position will work with Dr. Wade Smith's Cranial Accelerometry Lab (CAL) within the Neurology Division. Throughout the Department of Neurology at UCSF, our mission is to deliver superb patient care, to apply state-of-the-art translational research methods to discover the causes of, and treatments for human nervous system disorders, and to educate each generation of medical students, neurology residents and postdoctoral fellows. By fostering cross-disciplinary interactions among scientists around the world, we accelerate the pace of discovery and champion the University's global health initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biological science, computational / programming, or related area and minimum five years of experience or equivalent experience / training.

In-depth knowledge of bioinformatics methods, applications programming, web development and data structures.

In-depth knowledge of bioinformatics programming design, modification and implementation.

Advanced understanding of relational databases, web interfaces and operating systems.

Advanced ability to interface with management on a regular basis.

In-depth knowledge of web, application and data security concepts and methods.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced project management skills.

In-depth knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research.

Advanced interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at all levels in the organization, including senior project leadership.

Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.

Ability to lead a team, meet deadlines and demonstrate advanced problem solving skills.
